And guess what, France is not France, Italy is not Italy, Spain is not Spain, Germany is not Germany, Sweden is not Sweden, so you got all wound up because he put a U in Colombia, and yet you have been spelling many countries wrong all your life without the least concern about being raided by the spelling police.

Columbia or Colombia or Columbus is all a corruption of his Italian name, Colombo, other accepted spellings include Colomb in French, Kristoffer Kolumbus in Swedish, Christoph Kolumbus in German and Christoffel Columbus in Dutch.

Any Spanish rendering of his name should be Colón. That country down there should be Colonia,

But, apparently it is all Hellas, to you

Obviously my point went over your head so you typed all that rhetorical stuff for no reason.

Stuck in a bit of a linguistic rut ain't you.

Mark Twain "I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way. ..."

Andrew Jackson "
It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word."

"...ours is a mongrel language which started with a child's vocabulary of three hundred words, and now consists of two hundred and twenty-five thousand; the whole lot, with the exception of the original and legitimate three hundred, borrowed, stolen, smouched from every unwatched language under the sun, the spelling of each individual word of the lot locating the sourceof the theft and preserving the memory of the revered crime."
- Mark Twain

"Correct spelling, indeed, is one of the arts that are far more esteemed by school ma'ams than by practical men, neck-deep in the heat and agony of the world."
- Henry Louis Mencken

It's not only the spelling it's about the context in which he responded. Again you don't get it. Don't try to come off as an intellectual snob when you can't even get the spelling of a Country correct.

"Oh my dear don't call it Cali, ewwww us BMW driving natives would never call California Cali at a wine and cheese party. Oh my, can you pass me the shampain."

"You two sound like a couple of old women".
That was a line from the movie Thunderheart .... Grandpa Sam Reaches yelling at Ray and Walter Crow Horse when they were bickering.
Remember?
That's just what came to mind when reading this exchange between you two.

Seems like a case of early adult / student angst.

Yep, people can be disappointing, cliquish, status conscious, mean, conniving, sneaky, ruthless, etc.

And that's true in Richmond or SF or LA.
