That's interesting. I'm only one person, but 99.9% of the people I know do recreation on their own: skiing, basketball, mountain biking, body surfing, golf, Ultimate Frisbee, tennis, swimming, etc. Unless it is a specific skill like karate or lessons like tennis, it seems that most people don't want to spend extra money for something they can do pretty much on their own.

That's why I asked about demand for services such as these. Where do these people work? Is there enough demand to support them?

Anyone know about Monterey or Santa Cruz? What parts of Ventura or Oxnard are safer?
Monterey and Santa Cruz are both very nice, but I am not sure about the job potential there, neither area is very big and certainly they are nowhere near Los Angeles. Again, no one can stress it to you enough, check on the websites to see where you can get a job, set up interviews but do not move until you have something lined up. The economy in Calif is sufffering and jobs in your field which are usually or always government funded are being cut right and left. If you can't find anything in Idaho, what really makes you think you will in California? You may think there are more jobs, but there are also more people competing for those jobs.

You mention camping out for awhile, that will work only til the weather starts changing and the parks close for the winter. Yes, they do that in California as well as in other states and no, it isn't the best way for a young female to live. It is fine when the parks are busy with tourists, not when they are almost dead..

If you really want to make the move, is it possible for you to live with your family in Riverside or your friends in Bakersfield for a few months? What do they say about your plans to relocate?
