Truth in City Names!
Don't you think that towns and cities should be forced to name their municipalities with a grain of truth as to what the area is like?
As an example, Pismo beach is named after the clam which are now mostly extinct. Maybe it should just be named Tourist Beach.
Mt. Shasta City is well named as it is right at the foot of a wonderful snow tipped mountain.
Someone was asking on the forum about Long Beach and it was described as a sewer. Did the long beach leave years ago?
Hey, and Oakland has very few oaks. Maybe it should be named Portland or ?
Anyway, do all of you good folks have any thoughts???

Canoga Park used to be named Owensmouth because in a sense it was the mouth of the Owens River as Mulholland's aqueduct extended the river from the Owens Valley to the Chatsworth Reservoir.
Mission Viejo is a is an ungrammatical use of a masculine adjective with a feminine noun in Spanish.

For that matter, so are Orange County and, if translated from the Spanish, Los Angeles.

At least Orange County used to have orange groves. I doubt Apple Valley ever had any apples that weren't in the produce section at Stater Bros.

The Long Beach neighborhood of Naples has canals, which the actual Italian city does not have. To be more like its namesake, it should have trash strewn all over the streets, insane drivers and traffic jams, no enforcement of traffic laws other than obstruction of traffic (if even that), pickpockets all over the place, narrow streets filled with old tenements, and the best food in the world.
Since Fremont, CA is in between Newark, CA and Union City, CA it should have been named Jersey City.

Palm Desert is truth in advertising. It's the desert and it's got a lot of palm trees.

Christ, no! Just leave 'em alone. Every place was given its name for a reason. And I, for one, never question the names. Many cities have enough hassles on their hands with the re-naming of streets.
