Relocating to Visalia,Ca from East Coast. Need advices! (Fresno: rent, amusement park)

Hi!

We(me and my hubby) are relocating to Visalia very soon from east coast.

We are coming there very soon to buy a house.....

I need help from Visalians.

We are excited to start a family in Visalia, I fell in love with that city when i first visited last Feb. The city seems very quiet and has small town feel but also has everything that you need.

I need help to find a nice neighborhood where I don't have to afraid of going for a walk at night....

Better neighborhood to raise my babies(hopefully soon ;D)....

I've heard NW of visalia is better in general, i know some would disagree.


Mid North and North E are very dangerous, I heard...

how dangerous?


We are first time home buyers, We don't wanna make a mistake making this big decision......

We won't be able to afford to move again soon...

Can you give a little more info about your price range, preferred size of house, age of the home, etc? That would help lead you to some neighborhoods to start looking at.

try and stay out of the "oval"area. murray goshen birdland. newer houses off of st johns parkway are very nice. south side of town seems to be alright. there are certain areas on the north side not to move to but the north side itself is very culturaly diverse. ive lived here on the north side of town every time ive moved back to visalia by choice. basically looking at a map dont move between murray/goshen to riggin and 63 to money that basic square is ify in most parts. really nice parts scattered but until you become accustom to this town i would move to the far east where the new housing is. south part of town or far west side

NW Visalia is nice also SW has newer homes. Oval area can be dangerous at nights. Check out the area near El Diamonte High School, generally its a nice area. If you dont decide in Visalia I recommend Tulare, its a short distace, houses are cheaper, and I would even think safer for the most part if your on the East side of town.

What I recall from my experiences with a girl I dated that lived there...it's essentially a backwater village, where you have to go to Bakersfield to get anything done. Assuming that's all true, and you don't care, have at it.

Must have been a long time ago since you dated that girl. Its not that small and backwater anymore.

Visalia is now over 120,000 people, with next door Tulare at about 60,000.

Macys opens this month, Marriott now has a full service hotel in Downtown Visalia, and many other changes.

You'll have to hire a realtor... that's the best way to find out about schools & neigborhoods.

Visalia has no night clubs. Nearest night club is in Hanford. Their mall just got Macy's. They don't have much in entertainment. They do have your basic shopping needs. They have the outlets in Tulare, the mall in Visalia, an amusement park, bowling alley, cinema, Costco, and Kohl's.

My room mate is from Visalia. It's a very conservative and Christian area. They have alot of churches. They do have a gang problem there because they are farely close to Fresno which is a large urban city.

LOL your roommate either didn't go out much in Visalia or is going through one of those "my hometown sucked" phases.

Visalia has one of the better entertainment scenes for a small city that doesn't have a local 4 year college.

I can think of several places off the top of my head with live music and I don't even live there. There is The Cellar Door, Brewbakers and others. The Fox Theater and other spots in Visalia pull in travelling acts.

Recent and upcoming concerts in Visalia have ranged from oldies like the B-52s as well as Michael McDonald (used to be with Steely Dan and the Doobie Bros), to jazz like Bobby Caldwell, to performers like Frank Black from the Pixies or Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins. Last month punk/indie rockers the Thermals from Portland were there.

Then there are things like a couple of little theater groups, a symphony, etc.

Plus Visalia has a music festival that attracts bands from around the state.

And conservative? Well Visalia is in Tulare County which is about 36% registered Democratic voters, San Luis Obispo County is also about 36% Democratic. So if you also call SLO conservative I guess you can say that about Visalia.

If you are really worried about making a big mistake then take some advise from a frequent mover in my life ( Now retired) don't buy! rent for a year or two, see if the area is really to dye for. then if needed you can move on with little trouble.
