Good.

The more negativity, the more people leaving, the lower the housing prices go.

They'll still keep coming. Too many people have been brain-washed by TV and movies in believing California is a laid-back land of milk and honey where everything is possible and all your dreams will come true. As long as they can live by the beach.

Not if they read this forum. The negativity spews from the keyboards and becomes typeset in every post!

I agree to some degree though, California is not going to make you a better person.

"Thus the Milken Institute, a think-tank in Santa Monica...."

Considering it is run by a convicted felon who got off way too easy, that organization has about as much credibility for me on economic matters as the Lewin Group (owned by United Health) does on health care issues.

Also, the United States as a whole has been losing its manufacturing base for at least 30 years as globalization has progressed. Heck, Ross Perot brought the hollowing out of our industrial base up back in the 1980's. So has the Pentagon, by the way. Thus, it ain't just California who has this problem.

And California, despite being supposedly so anti-business, yet continues to be the eighth largest economy in the WORLD. And I don't see a mass exodus of the rich of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach or Beverly Hills occurring quite yet. If conservatives think it is so economically advantageous to live elsewhere, well, why don't they? Heck, to hear them talk, the three cities I named above should be ghost towns and South Carolina or Oklahoma should be the new drivers of the U.S. economy.

And aren't they just shooting themselves in the feet by staying? The rhetoric just doesn't seem to be meeting up with reality here. I mean, why would somebody like Curt Pringle (basically Hugh Hewitt with a lobotomy) want to be mayor of Anaheim when there is more money to be made elsewhere and much less illegal immigration? C'mon Curt, Mississippi has your name on it. And don't let the door slap you where the good Lord split ya on the way out.

The rich have no reason to leave because they already have what they want, the means to sustain it and live the "California dream. The poor can't afford to relocate and besides, they'd be giving up some of those lovely entitlements to move elsewhere. The rest of the lower class is what's causing the prison overcrowding and doesn't have the freedom to move. Besides, they'd be giving up opportunities to take from the rich. The illegals prefer to stay close to home -- their original home.

That leaves the middle class that's being squeezed out by a sour economy, high unemployment, still expensive housing and, in some cases, the ruin of having tried to live the good life beyond their means and finding themselves upside down in many respects.

Then again, some of us in the latter category made good decisions and simply want to move back to America!

Yeah it's the middle to upper middle that are leaving. People like myself that make enough to have a pretty nice life almost anywhere else but because of the cost of living here, will never get ahead. Or the people I once saw called HENRYs (high earner, not rich yet) that make $200-300k/yr and wind up the target of confiscatory tax rates because the government considers them rich, yet they aren't really rich because their lifestyle depends on a constant high income.
