Oh please. Sacramento is seen as a cowtown but that's about it. Oakland is villified like no other place in NorCal. No comparison whatsoever.

Oaklanders are defensive because we know the damn truth--yet outsiders talk so authoritative as if they know better than us. And then they have the nerve to tell us we're wrong.

As if.

Sacramento is nicer than Oakland in my opinion, but to each his own.
I've lived in both and Sac is nice, but Oakland feels much more like a big city.

Yeah to each his own Sacramento nicer than Oakland? You couldn't pay me to live out there. The people I know that have moved to sac from the bay, did so due to housing cost not by choice. They come out here every weekend for things to do.

It's more dense/urban that Sacramento, but in what ways does Oakland "feel" bigger than Sacramento? If that's the only criteria, does Oakland feel bigger than LA? From my personal experience Oakland seems more urban than the majority of LA.

Vast minority. And they are probably snobby nose in the air bay area transplants who are too stupid/uninformed/snobby to realize they are wasting their time/money doing things in the bay are they can easily do here.

As someone who is heavy in the nightclub scene in Sac, I can tell you that I meet a lot of people that come up here from all around the bay, even the far away places like Berkeley and SJ (college students). No they don't have friends up here they just come to club.

Or maybe they've experienced the things in Sac and still prefer the amenities over here.

the mansions in the oakland hills and foothills are just as much a part of oakland as the rough areas.there are lots of great dining areas in nice neighborhoods -jack london square ,grand lake ,temescal, college ave ,old oakland, uptown, mountclair village ,piedmont ave - all very safe.

Sac offers enough cultural and entertainment options to not require you do visit oakland/sf every weekend. If you do, you're just willfully ignorant or a snob. I will be the first to admit that Sac is not exactly the cultural and entertainment capital of the world and we have a lot of work to do, but if you know people who literally leave town every single weekend they aren't doing it because of a lack of things to do. I have met those kind of people before and usually they live in the very far out suburbs like Granite Bay/El Dorado Hills/Rocklin and they know absolutley nothing about Sac.

Well, most of the people I'm talking about are black folks who live in North and South Natomas as well as in South Sacramento and Elk Grove.

I know one woman from my old neighborhood who comes back to Oakland every two weeks like clockwork just to do her hair and nails.

If you go to around Oakland on weekend nights you always run into Sac people at restaurants and bars.

i don't know much about sacremento but i am interested in the arts for example live music acts local and national, classical music, broadway traveling shows(south pacific is in sf now), fine dining(chez panisse, boulevard camino).i think it would be hard to argue that sacremento has the same amenities as the oakland/sf area but i could be wrong
