Fresno would be considered a "free standing" city all by itself. Clovis, Sanger and a few other towns I can't remember the names of would be suburbs of Fresno. LOL Humboldtrat.

Frez is a suburb of No and No is an unincorporated township of Frez. Together they are Fresno.
OR, with they overdevelopment of Yosemtie Valley over the decades, you could maybe consider Fresno and merced suburbs of it.

Fresno is a suburb of Arm, which is why it's nicknamed California's Armpit

Fresno is the city in the center of California. So everything else, like Sacramento, is simply a suburb of it.

San Fransesno. But all the locals call it "Fresno".
But dude, look on a map. Take you 5 seconds to determine Fresno is a city in it's own right.
