Why does Chico, Merced, Woodland, Hanford, Yuba Cit, Palmdale, Victorville, and Eureka not have a Macy's?
Why does Chico, Merced, Woodland, Hanford, Yuba City, Palmdale, Victorville, and Eureka not have a Macy's?
Why isn't there a Macy's in their malls? What is their area lacking that can't get them a Macy's?

What is so special about Macy's that a person without a cult-like devotion to brand-label consumerism couldn't find at other retailers?

there are only 800 stores. jcpenney's, sears, and kohl's have about 100. so for some reason Macy's is exclusive to certain areas.

A whole lot of market and economic research is performed before a big company invests tens or hundreds of millions of dollars placing a department store somewhere.
People ask the same thing about Trader Joes.

In the case of Woodland, Target meets their fashion needs.

Because Macy's attempts to be a luxury department store(moreso than Penney's or Sears at least) and those aren't luxury store areas. Kohl's is sort of a department store, but not in the traditional sense, and at least in CA they are not in traditional malls and rather in the newer "Towne Center"/open mall type developments. They are also a value store.

Macy's only recently gained a widespread presence in California. Most, but not all, of their stores are conversions from The Broadway, Robinson's-May, Weinstock's, or Bullocks. If a mall didn't have one of those stores, they probably don't have a Macy's.

I hate it when they add the "e" to town, or the "pe" to shop. Nothing but pretentious bull****.
