In Nashville TN we pay $60.00 a month for water and it's just the two of us. In California we had an inground pool, sprinkler system in the front, back and always had someone staying with us and our bill ran around $100.00. I would hate to see what my water bill would be here in TN if I had another pool and company all the time. So actually it was cheaper in California.

Default average water bill

My water bill is usually about $45 per month but recently spiked to $80 this past month. I never recieve a bill directly from the water company. The bills are sent via a private billing company according to property management. A few of the neighbors told me that the management company does this because they divide the cost of the entire building's consumption among each of the apartments no matter how many people occupy each unit. I live by myself and find that $80 is absolutely without a doubt extremely high for just me! When I asked the property manager, she told me that there was no way I could obtain an original copy of my actual water bill from the water company itself. Do I have rights in a situation like this? I am not entitled to see my actual bill directly from the water company? I live in Clearwater FL...

My husband and I pay about $35 dollars every month here in San Diego.

When we lived in Orlando it was around $8-15 per month. We never did figure out why it was so cheap!

The city picks up trash & recycling at no cost.
Whoa, that's so weird! Where in San Diego do you live? We live in Mission Valley and our bill has never been over $40/month (technically we get it bi-monthly).

However, we have to pay for recycling/trash pickup. Something about being in a gated community or some nonsense...

In Grass Valley, California the base sewer rate for 2 months is $102.OO. That breaks down to $51 per month. The base water rate for 2 months (without using a drop of water) is $47 for 2 months. That breaks down to $23.50 per month. So the monthly rate (at this time) for Water and Sewer is $74.50 per month without using a drop of water. After the base rate, it costs $3.39 per 1000 gallons of water. Our April/May 2011 Sewer and Water Bill which included only general water use for 2 people, (actually 1 1/2 people since my husband works and stays out of town 5 days a week), and with no outdoor watering was $162.97 for 2 months. This breaks down to $81.49 per month. Our summer bill when watering outside would be probably $125 to $150 PER MONTH. And our base water bill is going up again soon since the City is putting in SMART METERS and contracting with an out of state company to handle our water and billing. 20 years or so ago our water and sewer rate was a flat $30 every 2 months. Go figure!

I live in Santa Barbara County in CA and our water, trash and sewer are combined. We pay between $92-$100/mo depending on the time of year. Higher in the summer months or when the kids are home from college.

We pay water and trash quarterly. Water (community wells) runs $30 - $10 a month, and trash pickup runs $60 - $20 a month. Elentricity from a cooperative varies by season from a low of about $50 to a high in extreme weather of about $110 one or two months out of the year..

To make you all feel better....we live in FL (about to move back to CA this summer)...
our water bill fluctuates between $150-200 a month!! 2 adults and 1 child, we do have a large pool and sprinkler system, but still utilities are outrageous. Electric bill in the summer gets close to $500 monthly.
