FYI: Did attain my GED and some college, but found it was not for me.

Did you grow up in California? But regardless, nobody is claiming that all drop outs cause crime, are of a particular demographic, etc.

Honestly though I don't blame them for dropping out, California schools are horrible especially in the areas with the highest drop out rates. So long as the quality of education you receive is based on where you live and hence your socio-economic background this sort of thing will continue to happen.

Class stratification is Americas little dirty secret, nobody talks about it, people pretend like it does not exist, yet....it shines brightly for anybody to see.

No I didn't so I guess I have no business replying. Just notice that CA seems to have the highest number of people who go on the college and it seems in Ca if you don't go to college you kinda get looked down on. Just my perception, could be wrong. In the midwest sadly it's pretty acceptable to quit school, even today. Our state has (or had) lots of factories and they grabbed the dropouts and gave them work. It's primitive but it's happening, still. Not as much though luckily.

Was not trying to imply you should not be replying, but things are pretty different in other areas of the country. Some areas of California fit what you're suggesting, but many do not. I grew up in the Los Angeles area in a pretty decent community and the majority of my friends from high school did not end up getting 4-year degrees.

The schools in California with high drop out rates are largely in bad areas and have high immigrant student body. There are few factory jobs for these kids, rather there is the drug trade and its associated gang activity.

The same UCSB group says the California high school graduation rates by ethnicity are:
Asian 91.7%
White 79.7%
Hispanic 60.3%
Black 59.4%
California Dropout Research Project

So that means that over 20% of white high school students in California drop out. That is too high also. Its not just in "certain" ethnic groups that we now have a problem.

The information you are posting shows there are significant differences between the ethnic groups.
