Can a small town Arizona man make it in Cali? please help
I am a 20 year old Arizona guy ready to get out of this state. I have aspirations of moving to California but i don't know where to get started. I want to move to Northern California out of any big cities. I need to be close to a golf course to work, and it needs to be affordable on a 2 regular guy kind of salary. Preferably close to a community college or university but that is not imperative. Does anyone have suggestions for where to go and where to look? thank you any help is much appreciated.

Stay clear of the big cities—LA, SF and SD—if you want to avoid high costs. Plenty of jr. colleges and golf courses in the northern half of the state. Try up there.

A few snobs on this board won't like you calling it Cali. So I suggest you continue calling it Cali just to spite them.

If you want affordable, you'll have to move to the parts where the weather reminds you of Arizona.

Why not check out Southern Oregon? It's almost Northern Cal w/out the Cal. BS.

California is a mirage on the West Coast for most people, they hear all great things about it, the weather, the beauty, the lifestyle, etc. In reality, if you're not making at least $100k/year, you will be living with roomates for a long while until your salary reaches the six figures and then you might be able to afford an old small house near the cost for $500k+. FYI- I've lived here my entire life and I'm starting to realize California is most likely a nice place to visit, but living here will keep you in debt until your in the grave.
So on the optimistic side, there are plenty of places that would fit your bill and if your in college and don't mind supplementing your living costs with student loans for a while, I'm sure you can rent an apartment with roomates and still be in a desireable area ( at least where there in no daily gang shootings). Also, the Northern part is completely different thatn Southern California, so it really depends what you're looking for.
