Check out Calaveras Big Trees up on Highway 4, great grove of redwoods, different species than coastal redwoods. |

The Kennedy Mine in Jackson, at least one of the caverns in Calaveras County (Mercer, California, Moaning) The Old timers Museum in Murphys. Agree with Ferretkona about the Big Trees.

I second the Empire Mines recommendation..
The South Yuba river is also a great place to spend a day.

Try a drive over Hwy 4 before the pass is closed for the winter. Fall colors and some fantastic high mountain passes that are only found in a few places in the US.
