Am retired and can't deal with Alaskan winters any longer! Have been up here (in AK) for 40 years.... had lots of fun, raised a family, etc. Moved up here in mid 60's from SoCal and would now like to move back to the "Golden State" ... but certainly not SoCal!!
Have been doing lots of "research" and am seriously thinking about Alturas or surrounding area. Prices don't look too bad, as I'm not into "upscale" or whatever you call it! My kids are grown and on their own and my X wife (still a good friend!) will retire from her teaching career in the not too distant future and move to Moab, UT where she purchased a house a couple of years ago. Anyway, I would appreciate any input or comments that you would like to offer about the Alturas "zone" as it looks good to me! I've been through that area before.... but can't remember specifically anything about Alturas or the surrounding area .... so please give me your opinions and suggestions!!

Thanks in advance, Jack

Alturas is a small town, pretty friendly. If your into outdoor recreation, then you will be happy. Pitt River has alot of recreation areas. Burney Falls isn't that far away. Have you looked into Southern Idaho? They have basically the same weather as northeastern Calif. Prices there are considerably lower. We thought Twin Falls was a pretty decent area. Contact the Modoc county chamber of commerce, they have a relocation packet with lots of info.

My parents lived in Whitmore, 1 hour east of Redding. They love Alturas, Beiber, New Beiber, Susanville, Alturas. Burney is great also. Lots of small towns and still untamed land east of Redding. They moved here to NC about 10 years ago in their late 60's they are closer to hospital, store etc... Good luck, I was just telling my Dad how much I miss the beauty of that area and we were talking about all of these towns.
