Default Moving to Napa Valley Area

My wife and I are planning to move to the Napa Valley area next spring. We are looking for a community which has shops and restaurants that are more or less locally owned and within walking distance of housing. Also would like a community that is environmental conscience. Both of us are creative and enjoy education. We have been looking at Yountville, Napa, Suisun City and Fairfield. Can you help us narrow down our search? My wife is a social worker. I am a student finishing my masters.

Fairfield seems kind of a dump. Vacaville would be a better family choice there. Suisun City is a bit foreign to me... only driven through it. Napa and Yountville are more rural but also more expensive and significantly hotter, though the other two seem to get more of the bay breeze... which may equal too much wind.
