Wait a sec.

I thought the gay marriage movement wasn't interested in advocating their agenda in our schools.

Quote:
Just before a midnight deadline, Governor Schwarzenegger late yesterday signed a flurry of bills into law (http://www.opposingviews.com/tags/law - broken link), including a highly controversial bill that will declare every May 22 as "Harvey Milk (http://www.opposingviews.com/tags/harvey-milk - broken link) Day" and strongly encourage schools (http://www.opposingviews.com/tags/schools - broken link) to celebrate the gay icon.
Opposing Views: OPINION:"Gay Day" In Schools Officially Signed Into Calif. Law (http://www.opposingviews.com/articles/opinion-gay-day-in-schools-officially-signed-into-calif-law - broken link)

The bill signed by Schwarzenegger encourages public schools in the state to conduct lessons "remembering the life of Harvey Milk, recognizing his accomplishments and familiarizing pupils with the contributions he made to this state."
SFGate: Governor OKs Harvey Milk Day, marriage bill

How long before they sue to force schools to teach this..Im guessing very soon.

And probably not much later, schools will lose funding if they don't teach this.

I guess this commercial was a lie.

Is this a part of Barney Frank's push for Leave No Child's Behind?

Good point! In times of dire financial stress, I think we should all celebrate the famous "moneyshot".

Default Oh, lighten up

Harvey Milk was a pretty gutsy guy.

Why not celebrate his life?

I am quite straight...I'm not threatened by him, or any other gay.

Neither I, or my children, are about to be "converted"...what nonsense.

The above was written by someone intelligent , someone who gets it.

As a gay man, the positive about "gay day" is for me the educational aspect, which is what I believe it seeks to achieve. To let people know gays are normal people like anyone else but they suffer a hell of a lot more and are denied basic human rights in 2009 in this country

I dunno, scary thing to teach tolerance, since they made Martin Luther King's birthday a holiday, all my children turned black... Gotta watch out for anything that isn't white and straight.

Y'know, the travails of the gay community are not something I care a whole bunch about, but stuff like this

Annoys the heck out of me. As well say that heterosexual men want little girls. Painting homosexual guys with the pedophile brush, makes as much sense as painting heterosexual guys with the pedophile brush.

That is to say, it don't make sense. Snort, I gave you a positive rep a bit ago, I'd like to take it back.

Too much too soon imo, you can't force these things overnight like some people are trying to. Probably will create a backlash and provide more ammunition for the anti-same sex marriage crowd too. The gay community may have done more harm than good to their cause with this yet seem to wrapped up in their own world to realize that.
