LadyKLO is on a distinguished road
rayray, stay with your government job. This economy is not stable enough and you have a high chance of a new program you are working getting cancelled and then where will you be. The benefits of a government job is that if you are going to be laid off, you will know it far in advance whereas you might not have that luxury with a contractor. The SECDEF could cancel a program and bam, you're out of a job. $4K more and a signing bonus is nice however, there is something to be said about a job with stability. If you are looking to do something more exciting, consider transferring to another agency like the Army or Navy so you can at least keep your TSP and your sick leave, vacation time and whatever else you might have.

I too was in your shoes about 6 years ago but I opted to stay with Uncle Sam and he has been good to me. I have worked with far too many programs that got cancelled and I no longer hear from my contractors but their competitors....the choice is yours.

I agree with this above, simply because the raise is a measly $4K. If it were 20%, I'd strongly consider moving to a contractor (especially if there were other benefits: learn new job skills, gain enriching experience, better location, etc)
