It looks like a nice area to live based on the statistics that show low crime cheap cost of living compared to the rest of the state. Has anyone ever lived or visited the area that can tell me about it? I love Hispanics so that would give me another incentive to go there :-). Thanks in advance for any advice that can be given

Calexico is on the border of Mexico and California. I believe it is Imperial County. It's all farm land and pretty much all Hispanic. If that's your thing, you should probably be happy there.

I've been out there on one of my drives out past Salton Sea. It's pretty there and I really never realized how close we were to the border. It was only like 2 hours away from where I live.

it looks like from the statistics that there are alot of young people there. Is there much of a nightlife/social scene in this city?

Not at all. It's a farming community. There's absolutely nothing out there.

Why not take a look at the Coachella Valley? It is more affordable than LA, OC and the Bay area. I won't lie to you - it does get hot during summer, but we don't have humidity. Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Rancho Mirage all have the nightlife you are seeking.

Another affordable place in CA is the High Desert - Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley. They have some night life in Victorville, but nothing like you are going to find in the Coachella Valley.
