Concerning the racial divisions, our "WISE" elected leaders either facilitated or allowed this to happen, most likely for personal or party gain. While I am very pleased to have stable LEGAL immigration, ILLEGAL is of great concern, but even greater is allowing too many LEGAL and ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS into ANY country too quickly...

Similar as to now, the huge influx of non-protestant south-east Europeans [Jews, Catholics, etc] faced horrible difficulty integrating into the US in the early decades of the 1900's.

In some ways the isolation immigrants pursue is not their fault. Low level immigration nurtures assimilation and hopefully pride in ones new country... When too many are admitted too quickly, they naturally band together (personal family experience). Additionally, ethnic pride (something I despise, which only serves to separate Americans) has been fostered by our own bloody government and educational system.

In truth, this fight is over (see below). We should stop encouraging hated and separation (on all sides), and strive to foster all becoming, and taking pride in being, Americans, not some collection of hyphenated Americans (interesting that American comes second...?)

We have got to first seal the border.

Yes, I am all too familiar with British football hooligans, and Dutch football hooligans, and the rest of the lot Whenever there would be a home game in Newcastle we would stay well clear of the toon (toon=town) Especially if Sunderland, Chelsea or Westham were the away team.

That's becoming more and more believable. I used to always read remarks like this and thought that some were being paranoid. Then there's the politics forum here. Now, they're spreading out and no one seems to care.

Whats really unsettling is that so many ignorantly support groups like Stormfront, BNP and other such white supremists groups without realizing that these are the very same people who also support and encourage terrorists from fanatic Islamic sects.

I knew people in LA who had lived there more than 10 years but couldn't speak English. They made no effort to adapt to where they were living.

No one is saying lose your culture, but if I moved to France and didn't make an effort to learn the language and adapt to the culture that would be frowned upon.

I knew someone else who came over from Germany on a student visa and never left.

The people that came to this country years ago did so because they held America in high regard and wanted a better life. You don't see that so much anymore.

The one I mentioned from Germany constantly bad mouthed the US( yet she remained). The last I heard of her is she is getting married, which is interesting because she is a lesbian. My guess would be she is doing it so she can continue to stay in the US.

This is the essense of the problem. I haven't been in Calilfornia for a couple of years, but the last time I had to take the bus back to my inlaws from LA. They didn't even bother to do the announcements in English. I nearly missed the bus I'd paid for an early seating on since it was announced in Spanish only. There were a little knot of us, including a black family with a couple of teenage daughters, who sat together and waited since almost nobody else spoke English, including the employees. I would love to go to the event again but unless some other way of getting home if found will not do it. Aside from a metrolink to amtrak connnection at union station I won't GO into Los Angeles again.

But to define. . . When the Vietnamese refugees were first coming here I was tutoring in college. I had students who had not even been here six months who could not only speak understandable English, though they were striving to do better, but could write an essay in ithe language that was well written. They did not lose their culture, for they still spoke their native langage, but they did not expect the society to change for them either. At the same time we had hispanic students who were just barely literate in English and did not want English speaking tutors because they wanted to learn as little as they had to. They wanted their class help in Spanish only so they didn't have to.

I am not using them as an expample to site ALL hispanics in this group by the way. But this has been a trend for a long time. Where I used to live in Riverside we were at the end one of the few non-hispanic families living there. One of my neighbors would stop the conversation in English to speak to spanish speaking neighbors like I'd gone poof. The hispanic culture I saw was one which did not wish to let any outsiders in, and did not want to share the culture with English. This is one little pocket, but the kids that grew up there saw an enclave where they lived in the culture that had been brought along without any kind of mixing and that is what they would look for.

Today, its a lot of nationalities that want to do their own thing and modify us to fit them. That is NOT how the great contribution of immigration came to be. It was a sharing. The culture here did change, but so did the cultures of those who came. We used to be tomato puree. Now we're chunky vegetable soup. And its not working.

I post what I feel.... Sorry some of you are offended. My apologies. It's my personal opinion about what I perceive is happening in California which is what this Thread is about. I have no idea what 'Storm Front' means. I have experience working and living in Los Angeles and outside the US therefore I feel my opinions here are valid.
