Which state would you choose?
OK folks...when all heck breaks loose and there are not enough americans left to pay the tab for the social needs for the rest....which state would you run to? Thinking of finding a place two buy for cash with land to surround myself and be able to maintain and sustain off the property. Sooner or later when society melts down I don't want to be where I am. If you are thinking of leaving "Dodge" where would that place be? State, County, Town???

Man, this will surely be an interesting subject: It depends on what is important and the income situation as to what one would plan on spending for property etc.
Much of NM would be on my list, but not all of it. The cost of living is low, the weather nice year around with seasonal changes without any severe weather. There is a lot of vacant land. I would think of someplace like Socorro NM or maybe just east of Albuquerque.
Another place, of course is right here in NWA. It is very different from the much of AR, again we have 4 seasons but nothing too severe. There are lakes, rivers and mountains, lots of open land and a low cost of living, plus really friendly people and the area is conservative..SW Mo is about the same. Parts of Texas would be another possibility, but not all the state. I would go near Houston or further south in the state nor would I want anyplace around Midland/Odessa. Amarillo is an awesome little, big town, but the weather really sucks.
Just some starters, it will be interesting to see how others feel. If I were to return to CA it would be the mid part of the state, somewhere just one direction or the other from Sacramento.

Holy smokes! I thought that was a joke! No kidding? A Self-preparedness thread? What is this world coming to?
Me?
I'm moving to the state of perpetual hysteria.

Yeah, that new forum has all sorts of fun, fear filled (panting for the apocalypse) threads.
And if you get bored over there, the religion&philosophy forum has more of the same ... and with a religious twist ... even better!
Oh boy, oh boy.

check it out.

You can probably stay in the same county, just move down the hill a bit.
I hear the Idaho panhandle has a lot of folks who are ready to jump in their fallout shelters when the revolution comes though.

I'm burning a fire at the opposite end of the spectrum (May need a bucket of water soon). I am leaving the midwestern abyss to the land of fruits, nuts, high tax and immigrants. This could be considered suicide by most, but the dream never dies. California it will be. Hell or high water...probably a little of both.

South or North or Central Coast?
(i'm assuming you wanna be on or near the coast)
Your choice here will, in part, determine how much hell and how much high water.
You've probably gathered by now that SoCal seems to be plagued in a way that points north are not.
