Default Engineering College (4 year), small cozy town with friendly people ... with JOBS?

Hey, I've been obessing over moving to Oregon for about a year now, but I'm so frustrated now I'm getting over it. I'm setting my sites to check out Washington and possibly parts of California now. Here's what we need ... a place that has a 4 year college that has engineering programs; also would like maybe a small cozy town atmosphere out of and not connected to but close to a bigger city. I can't find a job in Oregon anywhere!!! =( And I'm an RN ... it should be easier. I'll look much more into things, but can anyone throw out some ideas to narrow my search? I want a friendly town where people know each other, but where people are not closed minded and close to fun things to do. The wine country area part I just saw looks nice, but holy cow - how can people afford to live there!? The college is a must...

Working as a nurse, I would presume an absolute minimum of 20 hours a week. Full time (16 units) in engineering will be extremely challenging; maybe go half time.

If you already have a bachelors, then you don't need the general ed. You may have some of the math, chem, and physics completed too. When I got my bachelors, there were 99 (out of 128) units required for a BSEE. That meant all my electives and many of be GE were engineering, physics, math, or chemistry; in other words, it was more than a double major.

Also (seeing you are from Missouri) realize the residency requirements for CA colleges.

In today's economy you may have trouble getting everything you want or anything for that matter...

If you think the wine country is out of your price range I really don't think you are going to find too much in California that will work for you. Jobs are tough to come by, the cost of living is high and there are not an awful lot of towns that offer what you are looking for. You might want to check into Paradise which would be only a few minutes from Chico State..Just a thought.

Sorry, I should've made it more clear. My boyfriend is the one looking to go to school for engineering. I will need full time work as a nurse (atleast 72 hours). Thanks a lot for the link, and yes I will check into residency stuff. In Oregon once a person is there and has an address set up you are considered a resident, as far as I read. Hopefully CA is the same if we move there.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into things. =) I meant to say - it's my boyfriend who needs the engineering school. I'll need full-time work as a nurse.

I am not certain, but I do know you have to be in the state at least 6 months to be a resident, it used to be a year..
