Planning London 2012 Olympics Trip
OK, so I'm starting to look into this. It's from 7/27 - 8/12/2012. When Googling, I found a site where you pay $250/person to hold your spot. I've never been to London before. I checked into prices a couple yrs ago, but things of course have increased since then I'm sure. I'm thinking a good $10,000/person for 7-14 days.
Anyone planning to go too? Anyone know a site w/ the lowest package prices? Any other info you can give me will be appreciated too! If you've been, I want to hear all about it, so feel free to PM me about anything that has to do w/ London!

10k sounds like a lot of dough, but maybe what you're doing could justify it. bout 7 years ago i did a 2 week trip to london, windsor, bretagne, and paris for 1500 including airfare. granted it was part of a group travel package, but i dont think there is that much of a group discount
there are really a few things you could do. if you work for a large enough company, they generally have travel services or contract travel services that can help you plan a trip. if you have american express, they have travel services that can help you plan a trip or sell you their own packages(and they have fairly competitive packages). if you have AAA, they have excellent travel services and can help you secure something as well

i've been to london, it was probably my least favorite major in city in europe besides athens. it is nice that everything is in english, but it is crazy expensive for americans and lacks the culture that you can experience in other parts of europe. the best part of the city is the extensive metro system, which i believe is the largest in the world. you will have no need for a car whatsoever. as for things to do, most of the sites are within walking distance along the river thames. i didn't make it to windsor castle or stonehenge, but apparently they aren't too far from the city. if you are going to be around for two weeks, i strongly recommend taking the channel tunnel train and heading to paris for a few days. paris is much more interesting, not quite as expensive, and has way better food. i would imagine that paris will be nearly empty of tourists because of the olympics, which would be quite a treat. good luck and have fun!

Oh no, it's not London.
Sorry for my edgy post.
I hope you have a wonderful time.
I'm just a bit cynical about the Olympics.
And i don't like huge events with so many people.
And i prefer the winter games ... or i used to anyway.

$10,000 per person is more than enough! You would have better luck posting in the World Forum.
