If you don't like a thread, don't read it.
What's the big deal?
Live and let live.
It's not like there's a lot happening on the CA forum lately.
After summer ended, things slowed way down.
Why not let people talk about what they wanna talk about?
It's not at the expense of other threads and other inquiries about CA from people out of state who need advice, opinions, etc.
No harm.

coyoteskye, people can talk about whatever they want I really don't have a problem with it. It just gets tiring to read the same thing over and over again. I'm beginning to think that Cityboy was right on another post when he said people who write on these types of threads really don't like the state and I'd rather for people to say that then scurry around the truth or hide behind some article. I always hope that these types of threads brings some type of insight but it doesn't. Anyways, I'm moving on....

What a great observation about the political class ignoring the voters. So true. Guess things will have to get much worse before people take action - or will they ever?
And that is the $64k question.

Judging by some of the reaticions to this thread, you really have to wonder if the people will ever wake up.

The people who have woken up and given up are leaving the state to those who will vote for the majority party no matter what.

Or they're just living their lives in CA and not allowing the state's issues to consume them, voting when they get the chance - even if it seems futile. That's the attitude of many people I know in CA. They do get frustrated when talking about it, but that frustration is not nearly at the level of what you see in these forums. As is the case in most online forums, those who are the least content have the most to say and tend to say it the loudest.

I think overall, it's a relatively small percentage of the population that will actually "wake up" and leave CA because they're unhappy with the state's position. I'm guessing employment opportunities will dictate most of the decisions as they usually do, especially right now - and yes, that can also be tied to the state's problems, but it has less to do with the attitude of "this state is in bad shape, I'm getting out as soon as I can" as it does "I found an opportunity I can't afford to pass up somewhere else". It's a different mentality. And for as intriguing as this article is, it doesn't mention anything about whether those who are unhappy actually plan to leave the state because of its issues.

You can count us among those who did. However, I have to add this caveat because I think it helps explain why. My wife and I spent a collective almost 40 years working politics and legislation in Sacramento. In the process we came to know the issues all too well and at the same time, learned the "real politik" of special interests and their influence on the Legislature. It was decidedly an arena in which ignorance would have been bliss but we needed the "insider" knowledge, name recognition and access to do our jobs.

Suffice it to say, for two natives it was heart-breaking!

And how many more have never heard of City Data and are just quietly leaving? The numbers don't lie. California has been losing population domestically for quite a while now.
