Received my check for the orphan week of Tier II today (Friday) and the stub indicates I am eligible for the final extension and it will automatically be filed meaning I should get a claim form within the next day or two as will anyone else that is moving on to Tier IV.

I am so confused about the fourth extension in California and getting through to EDD is impossible and if you do get through no one seems to have an answer.
My husband lost his job as the dealership went bankrupt. His claim began on august 18 2008. His third extension ends on feb 27th. Is he eligible for the fourth and is it sixth weeks or 20 weeks. It'sso damm confusing. Dealers are not hiring no one has money to buy cars.
Does he have file a claim form or will they do it automatically if he qualifies? He'e one of those long term people.

Congress doen't resume until Feb 22nd { depending on Weather} gee wish i culd call my employer and say the weather is just to miserable I think I'll stay home today.

Can anyone answer this question? In terms We can understand? Yea or nea, file or ui files automatically? We'er as desperate as everyone else is an the way washington is acting I don't trust them to help us with this mess we and them let us get into.

Hmmm your hubby's situation is tricky, because as it stands right now the deadline to file for the 4th extension is on or before Feb 28th (but because the 28th is Sunday it's probably really Feb 27th.) I guess it all depends on what they mean by 'file'.

Getting a new claim form in the mail and getting it sent back in time?...or just having EDD 'say' your eligible for the next extension and automatically file?

Plus: he most likely still has to receive the 1-week Tier 2 added week payment...which will push back his Tier 4 by one or more weeks.

Sorry Kathleen...really don't know on this one.

I thought that if your last day on feb 27th on the third fed tier you qualify for 20 weeks on the fourth tier in California which in in double digits. My husband falls into the long term folks filed first ui state claim on august the 18 2008. This is all we rely on too. I have become ill over the past year and can't seem to pll out of it. The Edd site is very con fusing anyone know the ansers I would like to start getting some sleep.

From my rought calcuation, I think your husband is on the FED-EX benifits and not Tier III extension.

Reg UI (26 w) + Tier 1 (20 w) + Tier 2 (13 w) + FED-ED (20 wk) = 79 weeks (about 1 and a half year). If he first applied in 8/18/2008 with the first week as a waiting week, 79 wks ends in Feb 2010. Does he have to fill out section B of the claim form the last few months?

I also received my last "week" (the "orphan week"). It also says that I am eligible for another extension and that it will be automatically filed for me. I do not see anywhere that it states that the claim forms should be received in a day or two. Mine says nothing about when I will be getting my next claim form. I assumed it might not be until after Feb. 28th??

from the EDD website:
For those currently on a FED-ED extension: If Congress does not take action to extend the current version of the FED-ED extension law, and California continues to meet the threshold for FED-ED benefits, a FED-ED extension may be reduced to a maximum of up to 13 weeks of benefits beginning March 7, 2010. If this happens and a claimant is affected by this change, he or she will be notified by mail.
Once a claimant has collected all available benefits on their regular claim or extension, EDD will notify the claimant on their UI check stub if further extended benefits may be available based on the current federal filing deadlines.
In addition, since Congress could take action to extend the current filing deadlines on federal extensions, you are encouraged to watch this Web site for further developments. You can also sign up for our Twitter messages so you are alerted as soon as any new information is posted on our Web site.

I'll be looking in the mail today to see if the claim form has been sent. I am not sure why you think it would take until after the 28th...you are in the group that qualifies for the final tranche of benefits without having to wait for congress to extend it. I'll keep you posted as to when I receive my continued claims form.
