I grew up on a surfboard and still say "bichen" sometimes but I just can't stand hearing California called Cali.
Calafia would be rolling in her mythical grave if she heard that !

Default goin back to CALI, back to CALI, back to CALI........

Anywho Sonoma and Napa Counties kick ass. Lots of great things to do and wine to drink. My suggestion rent a house in Dillon Beach or Bodega Bay and explore. Forget the tourist traps of SOCAL. GREAT FRIGING SEAFOOD!!!! also just 45minutes from Fog City. (San Francisco) for you out of towners. The Royal family of Britian loves to vaction in this part of CALI. Best damn Oyster Farms, Apple Farms, Wineries, Fisheries etc....
Very family friendly area.

You might consider deleting Clarks' input... he died 35-years ago but apparently Hell has high speed internet. There's a bunch of good stuff along the coast from San Diego. Also, Santa Cruz is earthy-beach type stuff. Most like it.

What do you call it then? Please excuse my ignorance, I am from the East Coast (CT) and that's all I've know it as. No disrespect

If you are/were in your mid 20’s and had to pick from Santa Monica and Santa Cruz, which would you choose?
I’ve been hearing great things about both…

Well, are you more into The OC or are you an earthy crunchy granola type?

Stereotypical California is more Santa Monica, Santa Cruz is more hippie crunchy.

I'd pick Santa Monica just because it's closer to San Diego.

If you want something touristy to do, you might check out Sea World. I haven't been to the one in San Diego but I hear it is right on the beach and nicer than the one in Florida.

Also, if you drive up to Santa Monica, you might want to stop and go shopping at South Coast Plaza in Orange County.

Yep, early 20's... I'd pick Santa Monica, too. Visit Venice beach. Touristy but a must. I love Santa Cruz but you'd have more stuff around you down in L.A. Santa Cruz doesn't have a ton of good beach property if you're hunting girls. It's a bit cooler up there and surfing is the priority.
