Back then,UC Berkeley was sarcastically referred to by many as "Moscow by the Bay",and things would seem to be the same, with far left ideology in control. If they bothered to vote at all, would wager a large sum that these brats voted for Obama, have entitlement mindsets, and, like good little Bolsheviks, believe that the government owes them an education.

Excuse me! Kiss my what? Realistically, however, it's a no-brainer to feel that way about Baghad on the Bay!

I don't think you have to worry about that. It's caught in a 40+ year time-warp and incapable of growth.

Exactly. Just who do these kids think should have to pay? Are they even aware of California's growing tent cities, the former taxpayers who have now been forced out of their homes and live in tents? There are people living without homes and shelters -- is that who is supposed to pay the increases?

Everyone else is tightening the belt and facing that money and jobs are gone but these privileged elitists thing that for themselves the good times must still roll. If they have to pay more toward their own costs of being educated, they might have to give up a couple of $100 concerts or their wild spring break parties in Mexican resorts. Imagine them not being able to hit the clubs several times a week.

A compromise would be for the university to cut salaries and a few positions of the professors. Then the students won't have to pay more.

Fight for what they believe in? Sorry, this isn't 1968. They are fighting to have other people pay for more of their college education. I suppose if they don't like the deal they are getting from UC they can go to Stanford and pay the $40k/ year it would cost to go there for an equivilant education.

Here's an idea. Maybe the students should unionize and go make campaign contributions in Sacramento so the democrats in the legislature will throw more money there way. It works for the public employees.

Probably not a popular opinion but I think the state should provide a free college education for its best and brightest. In a place like California they're highly likely to stay and use their talents to benefit the rest of the population. They will be the future of the state and will yield returns on the investment many times over.
