Looking for a nice town within 2-3 hours of Doyle, CA?
My mom is moving to Doyle, CA so my husband and I are probably following. We don't really want to live in Reno, because it looks like the crime rate is really high according to city-data.com What town do you recommend? We like to be close to a big city, but live kinda int he country at the same time. Kings Beach, Crystal Bay, Tahoe Vista, and Dollar Point all seem like they might be nice according to this site, but they don't even have crime data listed. Is there no crime at all there? Also, low cost housing is a must. We are a young couple, with children on the way so low crime and low cost (About $800 for rent) is what we are hoping for. Thanks for any input you may have on the area.

I don't want to be rude, but why would your mom pick Doyle? Has she ever been there? I live in the same county and Doyle is in really bad shape. If she is moving there for horse property, I can understand that. The land is cheap and there is lots of it. But otherwise its really run down. But, on the upside, it is the home of the world famous lizard races each August. LOL That title has always made me smile!
The areas you named are costly to live in. Reno is a bit pricey too, but not as bad as Tahoe. All those places have crime, if there are casinos, there is crime. Susanville, Ca is within 40 miles and has home and apt rentals in the $800 range. The crime is low, but low job opportunities unless you work for the prison system or transfer in to a national retial chain, etc. THe farther east of Reno you go, the cheaper the prices are. Fernly, Winnemucca, etc are within a few hours of Reno and more afforable. But again, jobs can be limited. Good luck.

Auburn is a great little town. Close to Roseville and the city, but plenty of rural and semi-rural places to live. It all depends on the price range the OP is looking for.
