Default Commute from Pleasanton to Modesto (Eastbound)

Hello:

I just accepted a job in Modesto. I'd like to live in Pleasanton, but I've heard terrible stories about the 580 commute (even though I would be doing the reverse commute.)

Does anyone have any ballpark figures as to how long it would take? I plan to leave my home a bit before 7am to get to Modesto (I Street) around 8am.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Sam

Yes, the traffic on I-580 can get ugly - ok, it's ugly just about all of the time . There are a lot of trucks hauling shipping containers coming and going from the port of Oakland to inland areas. Under so-so conditions, it will take you at least an hour to drive between Pleasanton and Modesto if not longer. Why not live closer to Modesto - maybe Tracy or Manteca. The rent might be a little cheaper there.

Pleasanton is certainly a very desirable place. Its about a 50 mile comute (580 to 132). Why not live in Modesto. Their are nice areas and even a great brewpub (St Stans)

Modesto also has a pretty decent mall, Vintage Faire, located right next to Highway 99 at the Standiford exit. I used to go there occasionally when I lived in Sacramento.

Obviously, this picture wasn't taken during a typical busy weekend.
