What are Danites?

In any event, when we place a higher requirement on marriage, not just based on whims, the result is more likely to be greater respect for the institution and one's spouse.

LOL...I just looked online.

The church has no secret police. It was a 'fraternal organization' founded by members, but not by the church itself, to help protect the church with its move to the west. Interesting really.

Upon arriving in Salt Lake, they were sometimes called upon to help maintain order in Utah since there was no official law enforcement or government but the church at that time.

Other than that, there is a lot myth surrounding them. Sounds like a great topic for a Dan Brown book.

mmm.... wonder who wants the world to think that the Danites were a "fraternal organization"?

Tell you what, are you familiar with the Mountain Meadows Massacre? 140 men women and children massacred.

Ever heard of Gunnison Colorado? Ever wonder who it was named for?

How about "Wild Bill Hickman"?

Orrin Rockwell?

The Mormon's official stand is that the Danites do not exist! They are only a legend, invented by those bent on Mormon bashing. And, as a result, the average, every day Mormon probably has never heard of them. Or, if they have, they view such information as a lie from the Devil!
However, the historical record is very clear on this (even among Mormon historians).
And an interesting line of research for you, check the numbers of Mormons in CIA and FBI, and better yet, what do those boys do when they retire?

There are shadows within shadows.

Well, that's what Wiki called em.

Yes that was very unfortunate.

Yes, that period of the church's history is really fascinating. Even my simple Wiki search revealed all sorts of juicy speculations.

Well a better question would be why the CIA and FBI recruits so many Mormons.

Not to go into detail but I know quite a few people(LDS) who work in that part of the government.

I think its because the strict requirements of those agencies is not too different from the standards the church expects from its members as far as being morally upright, trustworthy and faithful.

LOL...Dan Brown would have a field day.

Puddy4Lyf, don't say that I am ok with gays as long as they hide the fact that they are gay. Didn't say that. Don't try to make this into something that it is not or that I didn't say. I don't have a problem with gays. Most of the gay people I know understand where I am coming from and the ones of color get it. You are trying to speak for them, fine but you are going about it the wrong way especially when you try to make references to people being bigoted and against gays if they don't agree with some statements you have made in order to make a point.

At the end of the day CA is not as "liberal" and accepting as people would like to think. If any group wants to get someting passed it takes others to jump on board and support and messages should be clear and of course what people want to hear. All I'm saying is that sure gays can get the state to recognize a civil union but there is a specific way it should be done and that should be obvious since the previous two methods didn't work.

Also, I will say it again trying to equate gender and racial issues to gay issues is not right and I think it is really disrespectful. We all have differing experiences that really are not fair to compare. Don't want to teach history here so I'll end it there.

Not accurate. I found a few articles on lds.org regarding this group.

Well, its intriguing how many anti-mormons online prop this up as some sort of smoking gun. That happens a lot and we're used to it.

I couldnt find any denials by the church about this group's existence.

You are Mormon? May I suggest Jon Krakauer's book, Under the Banner of Heaven.

If Im not mistaken that book is about breakaway sects of the church who refused to stop practicing polygamy even after the church ceased such unions in 1890.

They are like the Mormon version of Protestants-only they represent a miniscule number compared to the Church.

While I support a person wanting to understand the LDS Church, I think a person who genuinely wants to know and understand what the church should also listen to what the actual church has to say about itself and not just entertain the indulgences of naysayers.

Its like shopping for a Mercedes at a BMW dealership.
