Country Living
We're looking for a place to move where we can have horses and other farm animals. We want to put a nice manufactured home on it for now. Somewhere it doesn't snow or have frost. We'd like to have an organic farm and fruit trees. We have two elementary school aged children.
We've looked around Clear Lake and it has some nice areas but that's not quite what we're looking for, but very reasonable. We're now in Southern California. We don't know anyone to ask about land there and aren't ready to use a real estate agent yet. I know there must be somewhat afforable land that's not completely away from civillization. I was happy to find this site and how much information you are able to give people trying to relocate. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thank you.

We want to live in Northern CA. Where's a horsey area? Organic farms? Any direction you can send us to look would be so helpful.

I'd check the Sacramento valley, from about Sacramento to Redding and all points in between and around.

Thanks for the info. I went on Realtor.com and found some land but I don't know the towns: Fiddletown. Is that a mountain? It looks beautiful but is it in the snow area? It's so hard to hunt when you don't know the areas! We want to be able to grow citrus trees, but we don't want to live near hunting. Am I in the right area of City-Data to do this search? Thanks

Except for date palms every fruit tree I know of grown in CA requires minimum cold hours to produce. Which means frosts and probably freezes

I looked up fiddletown on yahoo maps because city-data doesn't have info on it. I also looked up Plymouth, CA because it is near Fiddletown and it gets snow in the winter, so I am sure F will as well. As soon as you start going east of Sacramento, you are going in the mountains. I would use a map and follow highways 99 and 5 north from Sacramento and find cities and towns near those highways and research them using C-D and realtor.com. I think you will find some nice areas.

Thanks everyone! I read about an area called Capay Valley that someone recommended and it sounded good until I read that the water is somewhat tainted with mercury, boron and one other thing. We want to be able to be certified organic. I'm not sure of the safe levels.
Someone mentioned the thermal belt. It hard to find an area you want when you don't know anyone there. I never realized how hard that would be, starting over in a strange place and not leaving the state! I guess even though I've move many times and many places they were all in some way connected to places I knew or had driven through a million times.
I really depend on sites like this and all you nice people with all of your suggestions. And they say no one cares anyone anymore! Thanks!
