I would not recommend living in Carson. I lived nearby in Torrance and would visit Carson frequently growing up because I had friends there. Many Samons and African-americans there who are into gangs, key word, gangs!
Growing up around Carson I have seen shootings, stabbings and brutal attacks, oh and drive-by's where I had to duck and run. It does not have a good reputation, never has, never will. The city has been trying to clean up the image the last few years, but to no avail. The highschool is the worse, Carson High. There are better places to live, Torrance and Redondo Beach. I would not recommend Long Beach either, it is rapidly deteriorating. Wish you the best in your decisions! |

Carson is a very "ethnic" city. Lots of Latinos, Samoans and Filipinos living there. As another poster said, be careful when going there!

Hi Josh22, I am curious, what is your definition of ghetto! You are so quick to point out about particular minority groups as though you are superior? What's up! |

I wasn't putting down minority groups, and I dont think i'm superior either..
I was just stating a simple fact. East torrance is a gang area, and a mostly hispanic area. West torrance is nothing like east torrance, so I was just stating a fact. I'm not putting down any minority groups, BUT, when you enter a city that has: run down looking streets, trashy streets, graffti, people who look like they are in a gang hanging out on the streets and home corners, and 10+ people standing on the street corners looking for work: YOU TELL ME.... does that seem like a good area? That's all I was implying, nothing more. I've been to all parts of Torrance, so I know what I'm talking about. I've also been to also Hawthorne, Gardena, downtown Los angeles, Compton, paramount, and long beach, so I know when an area is bad or not, and I can tell you Torrance has some pretty run down, un-safe areas. Yet at the same time, it also has some of the safest areas too. That's what happens when you have a city borded like this: Redondo beach in the West (Redondo beach being very up-scale, rich, safe area), Palos verdes in the south (PV being one of the richest areas in LA, and California!) Gardena/Lawndale in the North (not a good area, mostly) Carson/unicorpated parts of torrance in the East (also not good areas) Lomita/Harbor city in the Southeast (not the best areas) Gardena/Compton bordering it in the North east Last edited by Josh22; 01-14-2007 at 08:43 PM. |

If you plan to have a family:
Most parts of Carson are in the Los Angeles USD Some bits are in the Compton USD |

Carson is alright...theres gang activity but thats pretty much everywhere you go in Los Angeles. Id pick San Pedro over any other city though.

From my perspective.. its a very troubled area...yes there is ghetto, yes there is industrial.. and yes there still is some more expensive housing... we address major gang problems everyday there...
and... if the human element isn't difficult enough to deal with there is the industrial element... the refinery.. which has had major incidents several times in my career involving mass evacuations you can watch out for gangs,,,, we all have to breathe the air.. I imagine the original poster is getting an education and might share again in several months after she has had some time on the ground There are places in L.A where one side of the street is "safer" than the other,, where some informal territorial boundary exists... Carson does have a very active city council... those residents who are involved do get "more" services,, just a simple fact of life Don't be afraid to call your local deputy.. have them stop by your home.. tell them your concerns.. make a friend. Some of us actually live in the communities we serve... we all have a vested interest in making life better and removing dangerous persons from our neighborhoods good luck |

Hello friends,
From what I read this is all I know: Torrance The east part of Torrance is bad, look at Torrance especially in the southern and western part it is extremely peaceful and a great place to live. I am moving from Seattle-Wa to Torrance, my job will be located at 3501 Sepulveda Blvd Torrance, CA 90505 I have never been in a different State, I am originally from Lima-Peru which is a huge city -10 million people. It is very diverse and yes you can see the difference between neighborhoods, although gangs are in certain dangerous areas only, not all over the city and there are not many guns just knives... Kinda scary but I have not lived there for about 3 years, I'm used to the live style here in Seattle, kinda quit... Please, can you recommend a place close to my job and yet affordable. I can afford an studio ($800-$1000) or a decent room in a house. Any ideas? THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF YOU> |
