Really enjoyed reading this thread. I hope the OP makes it out here to visit, and gives her take on what she saw and liked. I love being near the ocean too. I've considered Santa Cruz area sometime in future as well. Last year I spent a few days in Monterey. That's a beautiful area too. And a week or two ago I was in Carlsbad (north of San Diego). That has beautiful beaches as well. I've always preferred Northern California more though. Sometimes you have to just go for your dreams. It is expensive here, but sometimes being happy is worth more than having big fancy houses and all. If being by the beach is what you need, I hope you find a way.

I don't need big and fancy! Just a place to rest my eat S&)&9T and entertain myself. I need the sun, water and a job to support myself. And I'm good

I hear that. The fancy house part was not directed at you. I always notice on threads where people are asking about moving somewhere that many bring up the cost of housing, and how you won't be able to afford to buy a house and all that. Just saying that for some people buying a house may not be as important as finding someplace that makes you happy, and fits you. Where you wake up in the morning, and can't wait to get outside because it's just so right. I'm like that with the ocean too. I housesat my husband's cousins house right on the beach in Newport a few years ago. Good lord, I didn't want to even sleep I was so happy. Sitting and watching the sun set on the horizon (while drinking a nice glass of chardonnay), and waking up to the sounds of waves and the smell of saltwater. Good times!

I dream of that feeling...I have experienced it once or twice in my life briefly. And it's funny that you mention not wanting to sleep so not to miss the sunset. I have done that before too and then not wanted to miss the sunrise...he he lol We humans are funny creatures I guess that's why we have the saying (everything in moderation). But every sunset and sunrise is different! I wanna see them all

san diego would suit you;there's a large metaphysical community all over-from north park to la mesa to encinitas to the beach communities.

san francisco, marin and sonoma, also, for obvious ones! lol

santa cruz,as mentioned.

you would also do fine in arcata/mendocino,as well as mt. shasta [but no ocean],and parts of LA.
