I think that looks kind of fun. Burn a few extra holiday calories, why not?

Just out of curiousity, what state are you thinking of moving to when you finally get to leave Ca?
We'll have one more major financial obstacle taken off the list by the end of June. The real trick will be getting a job in Colorado from California because from all I've heard, out of state applications just get tossed. My wife has a few friends that might be able to help in that department but we'll see. Its sort of a chicken/egg deal where you can't get a job there without being there, but you can't live there for long without a job. We really don't want to burn all our cash hoping to get work before it runs out. I work for myself and will have to restart pretty much from scratch there so that'll take time. But its so much more affordable there than here (unless we moved to the middle of nowhere). Even though it'll be rough at first, the long term prospects for getting the life we want are better than here.

Here's 'Bama. Instead of dancing, they're eating BBQ. No kidding. This poor guy doesn't realize I snapped his photo at a BBQ joint.

I love California and have family here but I see all kinds of problems also. I have some ideas to help improve our lovely state but who am I other than a taxpayer with no real power. No one will listen or consider my ideas and opinions.

Happy New Years everyone!
Please do share! That's what conversations like this on CD are for!

(Besides it can be cathartic)

Happy New Year to you as well!

Long term, neither us wants to be here and we'll go as soon as its possible financially.

How long have you been posting here, complaining about California? Your record predates the recession and current high unemployment. You've been whining about California even when times were good.

I joined City Data when I was first researching other states and still had a house to get rid of.

Like the snow I plan see and slopes my kids plan to snowboard on tomorrow. Only to return to the sunny beautiful valley where I live.

Quit complaining and enjoy your life.
In many ways, for us, the fescue is more verdant in this part of the country. But lest you missed it, my original post was not an indictment but a lament.

First an old saying, "Poor Mexico, so far from God and so close to the United States". This of course relates to the United States considering Mexico as a colonial possession whose only purpose was to provide the US with natural resources, and of course, the two invasions of Mexico and the numerous "police actions".

But, Mexico is ranked 60th in the world in GDP. out of 194 countries, according to the CIA, it is doing better than Venezuela, Turkey, South Africa, Iran, Belarus, and Brazil just to mention a few.

And I am sure that you know the current drug violence is because of its location next to the US.
