Well, that says it all. We know where the 12 million are going to come from - legal and illegal immigrants. Oh, and don't forget natural increase. Apparently, living 30 to a house isn't a deterrant to some activities.

Yeah they're building several in OC. Definitely not the lifestyle I want but its probably the future of SoCal. Its already too crowded for me here.

The changes I've seen in Irvine in the last ten years are astounding. The charming community is gone. Yes, it's safe according to all reports, but it's crowded and becoming more so every day. Expensive homes jammed together, more ethnic shopping centers/stores opening every day, condos appearing on every possible hillside. There will be a time to leave, of that I have not doubt. I'm already looking at Texas and Alabama where I can at least have several acres of land and a large home.

I'm already actively looking to get out of OC too. I want kids but can't remotely afford them here. In Denver metro, I can get a cookie cutter Irvine type of house in a very nice area with good schools for under $250k instead of $900k here.

High rise apartments are being built throughout downtown San Diego and on the hill overlooking the bay on the west side of Balboa Park. They seem to be mostly in the 6 to 12 stories range. Along the coast there really isn't any other way to cram in the people.

I have to wonder what your income taxes will be to support a percentage of the masses coming that can't work or can only do menial work. What about health care and the strain on the hospitals to service those new arrivals. What about water? That question is aimed at Arizona. Will all the pristine farmland be sucked up for housing? When we left CA two years ago Sacramento was turning into a red roof meca. What will CA look like? The freeways will be a nightmare unless we can get cars to fly. It will be very interesting and I for one look forward to living long enough to see how our story ends.

As good as Irvine schools are supposed to be, I'm still sending my kids to private schools in San Juan and Dana Point. Quite a drive, but worth it. My husband and I joined households with my mom 10 years ago when my husband retired from the Marine Corps. She has a large home here and with home prices so high even at that time, it was the right thing to do. My parents bought this place in 1979...talk about a wonderful place to live then. I know that traffic down the 5 has increased tremendously. It's just so loud here! Yes, other places have their traffic and their crowds, but if I can find that home with acreage (and I will), I will at least have some peace and quiet in my home. If you are young and thinking about starting a family, I'd say get out and find yourself a nice home in the Denver area. And the very best of luck to you!
