Oakdale questions
Hello,
I am currently living in the Bay area and I am seriously considering to move to Oakdale, CA. Can Anyone give advice about neighborhoods to live in and the best schools in the area? I am also looking for a realtor I can trust. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you avoid the areas directly off 108 on both sides after you cross over "F" street heading to the hills you should be ok. The corner of "F" street and 108 behind the Hersheys Chocolate plant is not very desirable either. I'm not real familar with the schools. My wife works in Oakdale and her father also lives there. I will send you a PM with some realtor info.

Ok, no luck sending you a PM. Heres the info:
If you contact Jori Nunes with Century 21 M&M and associates she will be glad to help you out. She is our realtor and just sold our home. We are due to close escrow on June 1st. She is very sharp, honest and a REAL go getter. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Oakdale overall appears to have a really high property crime rate: Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed
Violent crime numbers aren't too bad overall, though the murder rate is nearly twice the national average.

Hershey plant closing will impact Oakdale
Hershey just announced that it will close its Oakdale plant in 2008; 575 jobs will be eliminated. This will have a significant impact on the community. I would talk with different people in the community about how they believe this will affect real estate prices and values, as well as the short term and long term effects on the community.

My husband lived in Oakdale when he was young. His father bought a peach ranch for a few years.
We drove down there a few weeks ago to check some areas. I won't do that again. It's far away from the main HWYs. It can take you 45 minutes.
There isn't much to Oakdale. They are loosing their Hershey's plant so things are going to look worse for them.
You can find some good foreclosures.

Hershey's is the largest employeer in Oakdale. For this reason I will no longer support them and buy their products. I hope their move to Mexico turns out to be VERY unprosperous.

I grew up in the Oakdale area and my parents continue to live there. I don't recall an exceptional crime problem, living in the tiny hamlet of Valley Home, and the commute to Modesto was about 25 minutes. The area is great for experiencing more of a traditional Fall/Winter but the season is also one of dense fog in the morning. All areas possess their good and bad neighborhoods. The Hershey plant did not support the majority of the community as I recall. Many residents worked at the various food packing plants that are numerous in that area. I think of Oakdale as more of a bedroom community to Modesto, and even to those commuting to the Bay Area.
