I don't know about visas and all of that.
You could also ask that over on the U.K. forum as i imagine there are others dealing with visa issues.

Will it be hard for you?
Most likely.
I sure wouldn't come over without enough money to get you through the transition.
You certainly don't wanna be homeless and on the streets of wherever and if you don't realize that, stay in the U.K until you're prepared.
Do not entertain any romantic notions of being on the streets of California!
You'll be asking for trouble and you will most likely find it or it will find you.
Also, you probably realize that the U.S. is in the midst of a very serious economic crisis and California has been hit very hard and the unemployment rate is extremely high in this state.
Good luck whatever you decide.
If you wanna be here, you'll find a way but do it wisely so you don't have to return home with your tail between your legs.

I don't think that a British man/woman would get checked for citizenship status lol. If you do decide on the San Gabriel Valley make sure to stay away from Pomona. I got lost there a bit ago and was NOT prepared for how many gang bangers and thugs I would see just walking around in plain daylight without a Police Officer in sight.

You need a work permit/visa before coming to the USA which is not easy to get.
