U Haul truck rental (24ft) from LA to Jacksonville is $4475. But from Jacksonville to LA is only $977. Wonder why?

If I ever considered moving back to SoCal I'd strongly consider the area which surrounds Vandenberg AFB (for job reasons). For fun I checked out the prices within a commutable distance to VAFB. Still extremely expensive on par with SoCal and the Bay Area.

4 whole months. It sounds like you really gave Idaho a fair shake.

If you don't like something, you don't like it whether it's 4 months or 4 years. I didn't like Texas. I was only there for 9 months. People say maybe I didn't give Texas a chance, but you know what? I'm happy as a clam to be back home. I know in my heart that I absolutely, unequivocally made the right choice in coming back here.

BTW, my mom is hell bent on moving somewhere and Idaho is one of her "somewheres" Texas was another, so was Virginia, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. I just hope that wherever she winds up she's happy because she won't be able to afford to come back to CA once she leaves - and I sure as hell won't be schlepping to another state for visits on a frequent basis!

Exactly!! You go where you're happy. Even if has been only 4 months. I never really wanted to move to Idaho in the first place. I moved with my parents because thats where they wanted to go and I was financially dependent on them. So I went where they went. Now they hate it there too and wants to move my sister and I back to CA. Plus, we still have our house in CA which LUCKILY didn't sell so we are moving back in. It was a blessing in disguise. I'm sick of ppl saying that I didn't give it a chance. Four months is a chance!! Whats the difference if its 4 months or 4 years? Nothing is going to change. I say walk a mile in my shoes before you pass judement.

Again, Congratulations Twinkle Toes! I'm glad you're happy. Nobody can take your happiness away.

Time is truely relative when it comes to figuring likes and dislikes. For some, I know they say they hate a certain place after spending a couple of years somewhere... but they never left the house. So, I would say they didn't give that destination a fair shake, really. But for some, a few months driving, socializing, dining, shopping, etc (if it's applicable) is really enough to determine whether a person likes a place or not. I travel a lot and I can tell you numerous places I wouldn't really enjoy living simply because I've been around enough to know my dislikes and likes within a short period of time.

I know there are places in Idaho that would bore the heck out of me. But I also know of places I've visited that would really be a great place for me to retire (or even live today if there were enough work or I became independently wealthy). I like Idaho myself, but I've probably seen a lot of Idaho that a lot of others haven't.

Why I left Calfornia? I've mentioned it on a few threads, but it was mainly due to the lifelong amount of built up stress from the traffic I endured on a daily basis. Along with the fact that I just wanted a different perspective of living somewhere I've travelled to and either appreciate more where I came from, or liberate my way of thinking so that future moves would not seem so frightful or troublesome.

Now that we've moved clear across the country (to NC), it was simple enough that moving again will not be such a big deal. Though we're thinking of moving back to the west in the next five years, we're also talking about the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and even Europe. And with that, we've at least confirmed the liberation part of our moving. Nothing seems impossible anymore and I'm glad we made the move so that we can do it again, and again, and again. The world is our oyster, as they say.
