Yeah...the stats look good, but I would have to think that living right on the margin of Vandenburg Air Force Base is going to carry a huge livability penalty with regard to noise pollution and low overhead flight paths. When there's a lower cost of living, there's always a reason for it.

Hmm, let me put it this way (LOL!),

Santa Ynez/Solvang: Heat Stroke in the summer & Freeze in the winter ($$ energy) & $$$$ housing.

Buellton: Nice, $$$ housing, but also next to a major freeway, one market.

Santa Barbara: $$$$$ housing, enough said..

Goleta: Same as above

Santa Maria: Nice communities within, but right next to a major freeway (busy), great weather.

Cuyama: Rural & quite & affordable.

LOMPOC!: Great weather, affordable/nice communities within, all the resources (shopping etc.), quite, no traffic, short drive & easy access to other nice communities on the Central Coast.

Gorda is a peaceful area.

Gorda Springs Resort

Above/behind in the mountains of the Los Padres National Forest is a road with Beautiful Scenery, which leads over to Hunter Liggett & Jolon Road.

I live in Paso Robles. We are about 1/2 hour inland (eastward) from the ocean. The dryness and higher temps here are significant from the coast.

Also, houses usually cost a lot more along the coast.
