Default Wanting to Move to Sonoma, Mendocino, or even Southern Oregon Coast.

My husband and I are thinking about moving our family (7 yr old and 3 yr old) to the coast, for a more peaceful life. Any ideas on renting a house or jobs on the Sonoma, or Mendocino County Coast line? May also be considering Southern Oregon Coast.

Hi, I am new to the forum but moved to northern CA in 2000. I started in Santa Rosa, now we are in Willits, thinking of moving to the coast (only due to job transfer.)
The answer to your question really depends on what you are looking for, what you expect, what you can afford to do, etc.
For the most part, I found the cost of living equal to Utah, where I am from, and some things were actually less expensive. But watch out for gasoline, propane, heating prices AND buying property! Whew! Renting can be reasonable...moreso in Mendocino and Lake Counties than Sonoma county...but I LOVE Sonoma County! We moved north because we needed more ground and rural life for our dogs. Otherwise, we'd still be in Sonoma County...without hesitation.
Like most places, drugs and gangs are a problem. They were in Utah and they are here. Only...in Mendocino County it seems that growing marijuana and producing meth is a big deal. That concerns me. So, I'd be careful of rentals...don't want your kids living in a previous meth house.
