Has anyone vacationed in South Lake Tahoe? I have never been there before and I will be there for Memorial Day weekend. I would like to know if anyone is familiar with that area and receive a little feedback on what is there to do. I was able to save a little bit of change for this trip but I don't want to spend the "whole" trip gambling it away. What are other suggestions for 4 days of R&R?

The place is amazingly beautiful. Many many things to do. We did a lot of outdoor things. Rented bikes and went for a 5 mile bike ride on a marked path only for bikes or walking. Many things to see along the way. We had a picnic at the very last beach. Went for a couple of hikes. Short one to a couple of waterfalls by emerald bay. Went for a few mile hike back up to a very secluded run off lake. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing is all I can say for the scenery there. You can rent a boat and put around. Careful because the lake gets pretty choppy when you get to the middle of it. You can take a tour on a big boat that shows you around and gives you some history. Beach for a lazy day. Shopping on the main drag. So many things to do, you will run out of time - HAVE FUN!!!

Thank you for the reply pirdybirdy....... I would like to see the waterfalls. Emerald Bay? I've never heard of that. How far was that hike there? Did you try the boat tour?

You could take a ride on the gondola at Squaw Valley ... short drive from Tahoe.

I was in South Tahoe in January. Of course the main activity then was skiing, but it looked like they had alot of stuff to do on the lake in better weather. I wasn't to impressed w/any of the casinos though.

We spent a week there last spring after not being there for probably 15 10 years: it hadn't changed much at all. of course just walking on the lake is refreshing and fun, do the casino thing and make sure you get all the freebies and free slot play you can, take a day trip to Virginia City (that is a must) drive all around the lake, you might want to take a boat trip as well. If you really enjoy the outdoors you can rent bikes or just do some hiking. I think Lake Tahoe is one of the prettiest places in our country and one of the most relaxing.

Might be my favorite place to vacation in California...I love it there.

There is a hiking trail that goes around the perimeter of the Lake. There are parks, scenic drives, lookout towers, cool wildlife...etc.

Don't forget Reno is nearby as well.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I do love the outdoors, so I will look foward to hiking their trails. I bet their are picturesque views of the lake.
