LOL. I understand the shudder. It is truely paradise for some and hell for others. Ours tipped towards the latter. We fled with finger in the air on our way out of town. Of course we left after we remade all our money we lost.

Thar are some folks that live close to Los Padres Dam in the Carmel Valley. It was pretty quiet & isolated last time i was out that way.

Have you heard of Dorris? Can't get much farther North, the population is low, get off Hwy 97 and the traffic is almost zero. You could be as secluded as you want to be. But it is still in California, so you still have sales tax, there has got to be a down side to it somewhere...

Hey, now you're throwin fishin' into the 'needs list'. No, I agree, you sure don't want to move to Oregon. Oregon has no sales tax but a very high State tax. Where I live in Oregon it is cool, but way more sunshine than what you want. Also, there are so many places to fish in this general area that you get a headache just trying to decide where you want to go. There are many fishin' holes, lakes, etc. in Northern California, and around Dorris too. I don't know what the population in Dorris is today, but in 2000 there were less than 900 people living there. The thing I like about Dorris, there are several larger towns close by that have sales tax free shopping.
