You're certainly not limited in your choices.
Which one didn't make the cut?

Are you in Arkansas?

Nope! Close but SW Missouri in the Ozarks and on the shore of a lake with an 800 mile shoreline and depths to 900+ feet.

We are not far from Curmudgeon but we are in NWA. There are lots of people here from California...

If you do want to stay in Ca and finding a job isn't an issue, I would suggest the coast toward Humboldt County (maybe not that far north) inland toward Paradise, or maybe places like Shasta..

That might be why we chose Missouri!

Nita's correct. They're not far away. The MO/AR border is only nine miles south of here but it makes a difference. People here have more teeth!

All joking aside, the Ozarks are beautiful on either side of the border and I believe the taxes in MO are lower than in AR. Every little bit helps!

But if any of you Califoreigners are contemplating a move east, by all means head for KS, OK or AR, not MO (except, of course, for Stingray 'cause she's really cute! ).

To the OP: I would go check out Magalia CA if CA is where your heart is. We lived in Magalia for 13 years. It is a small mountain community above Paradise which is up in the foothills above Chico. There are some small shops in its little downtown area, a Holiday shopping center, post office, Dolly O's donuts which I miss every day. There is a very good doctor and I think my dentist is also still there. Also a Walgreens or CVC or something along those lines was in the process of construction. Paradise which is about 8 mi down the road has Safeway, Albersons and another Holiday grocery store. K-Mart is in Paradise as well. They also have a great little art center. Lots of privacy in Magalia. Check Realtor.com and put in the zip 95954. There are plenty of cheap homes to pick from.

Check out Meadow Valley, about 8 miles west of Quincy. Nothing there except a post office, a school and a church. You would have to go into Quincy for food, gas, etc. It can't be too expensive there.
