I have been trying to get something straightened out with them since mid February. This has got to be the most inadequate agency in the state of California. Did they hire a bunch of people recently and rush them through training?

I have spoken to at least six different people and most of the time they just want to hear themselves speak. I have explained the problem over and over, and given them the solution but instead they just want to do what it is they are doing.

And it is a real simple problem which is getting my federal wages added to my claim from 2009 so when I am not working again my balance will not show zero as it is now. I am missing over $7,000 in federal wages. Well, federal agencies don't report wages to states. So what they have to do is submit it to the address on the SF-8, a form you get from the federal govt when you are laid off, furloughed etc.
Well since I am in TX now CA EDD keeps submitting it to TWC (TX unemployment agency). TWC shows zero wages for me from the feds...why because the feds don't report to states!

CA EDD insist they have to submit the request to TWC and get the wages from them. I have yelled it to the roof top that they are going to get zero wages back.

I really feel like going to the local media (CA), getting a lawyer (can you sue a state agency for incompetence). It is so frustrating when you know what you are talking about but since they work there they are right.

I went so far as to call TWC to explain the situation and was told what I already knew..."CA has to submit the request to the federal agency not us."

Who oversees these people? The only complaint process I have seen is online where you can send in a suggestion, comment or complaint. Can only imagine that the same people you talk to on the phone are handling those too!

just remember not to bite the hand that feeds you. not that the EDD is run well, i remember when my wife was unemployed she had to go their office and use their phones just to speak with someone, but just remember that you're lucky to receive any type of compensation at all when you're not employed. i'm not sure filing a lawsuit will get you anywhere.

That was a joke, wouldn't waste my time and energy with a lawsuit.

But that is my point BRnSM...because of the incompetence there I had NO income at all while I should have still been receiving benefits. But by the grace of God I got a call just in time to pick up some temporary work for four weeks so far. After the four weeks I hope to get picked up as an Enumerator with the Census. In my area they need 1,000 people so I should be in.

I also know it is common in government agencies rather it be federal, city, county that some, not all, just don't care about doing a good job. I have worked for federal and city and see it all the time. The city of L.A. is in a budget crisis and about to lay off people. I worked there for 3.5 years and in my unit there was really no work for the 8/9 hours that people were there. So most of the time was spent reading, surfing the net on taxpayers money. And the people that worked graveyard spent their time taking naps. Now it's time to pay the piper and everyone is yelling not fair save our jobs!!

So when I call EDD I can only imagine when they put me on hold for 20 mins...is he/she really working to help me with my issues. Then she comes back to tell me the specialist handling my case is not in and she left him a message and when she talks to him she will call me back...it took 20 mins to find that out!!

Oh and by the way didn't come back in that 20 mins to update me on what she was doing. Now in customer service in private industry that is totally not acceptable to leave someone on hold that long.

If the taxpayers of California were willing to pay for customer service that fits your idea of what is acceptable in private industry things would be different but it's the old story:everyone wants services, no one wants to pay taxes. The Crescent City EDD office, north of here, used to have its own office and 6 or 8 staffers onsite to assist with claims. Now there's ONE person (not even sure they have one;it's been several months since I was up there) in a "Workforce Center" and you have to file your claims by phone. But Arnold took care of his natural constituents: hummer drivers. Haven't you noticed how short the lines in the DMV offices are compared to what they used to be? And are you aware that the less-favored agencies are closed and workers furloughed on Friday? It's not just you that's suffering.

Eureka I am in Texas now so not aware of a lot that is CA these days. So based on your post a person doesn't need to do a quality job? Don't they get a paycheck? You and I are comparing apples and oranges.

Wages qualify when they have state SDI removed. Contract labor wages do not have any deductions removed. My friends at the ship yards get federal unemployment, pays over double that of CA EDD.

My point was that NO ONE can do a "quality job" trying to do five day's work in only four days available. That's all.

I had to call my state Senator to get a return phone call from the EDD. Everytime my husband and I had tried to call there was NEVER anyone picking up the phone.I finally got to speak someone when The rep at the Senator's office sent an email to the EDD rep. Then after speaking with me (I had already gotten my check by the time they called) I handed the phone to my gusband who had a totally seperate issue. They told him they would call him back in one week with an answer and they never called!

I cannot get ahold of a live person at EDD at all. It doesn't matter the day of the week or the time of day. Basically you get a message saying that there are too many callers already waiting to talk to a live person and to call back later, even if it is 830 am. I too called my local senator, and he gave me a "back line" number that just rings all day. My senator gave me a release form to have my husband sign so he can intervene on my husband's behalf. My husband has been out of a job since January and we have had NO income except for mine. It is now April. Good times.

There's thread that someone posted called, "How to get through to a live body at the CA EDD." There's a code number that you have to use, and it works. It's 12117, but find the thread first. I used it and I guarantee that it works.
