Republicans taking an anti-immigrant position in California do so at their own peril. Yesterday 1000's marched in downtown Los Angeles demanding citizenship. This issue tends to stir up Latinos regardless of legal status & is why Republicans don't do well in California, among many reasons.

How is it an anti-immigrant position? The reason why I am adamantly opposed to amnesty is because it is a slap to the face of my parents and the rest of my relatives who immigrated here LEGALLY from the Philippines.

It may not be anyones job pretty soon. The next project of the Obama administration is to grant amnesty and legalize the estimated 15-20 million illegal aliens. While many of the illegals are not very political, their ideology tends to be Marxist/Populist, and if they vote, they will likely vote 90% for far left Democrats. This is why the Democrats so desperately want to legalize them, it would insure them remaining in power for decades, somewhat similar to the long reign of the PRI in Mexico. Just imagine what the nation will be like if the illegals get the vote. Can you say Soviet Union?

That's because they have visions of racial supremacy. They think that if they can get enough Latinos in the country by any means legal or otherwise that maybe they will no longer be a minority one day. What they just don't seem to understand is that it's just not a good thing to bring millions of uneducated and unskilled people in from the third world. Do we have openings for 20 million more farm workers? Even if they do understand that they just don't care. Their self serving attitude trumps all.

Silly me, I had a lapse of common sense there for a second.

I agree with both of these points.

In order to stop any type of migration, the push and pull factors can't be present. The fact of a matter is that people are still hiring them, underpaying them, without any interference or sanction from the Federal Government.

Sanction the employers on at least getting them to pay minimum wage (illegal or otherwise, everyone should be paid the same wage), thereby taking away the motive for hiring illegals to begin with. It's really not that hard.

I also believe in reforming immigration laws to make it easier to come here legally. My uncle (engineer from the Philippines) has been on the waiting list to come to the United States since 1987. What a joke, right?

I am Latino\ Rican and agree that the borders must be shut. This is not an easy job since the border is over 1000 miles long. But I also know how latinos in general react to comments made by Republicans. If anything it creates a worse situation. In Los Angeles hispanics make up the majority. Add into the mix that the Catholic archbishop is radically pro-immigrant & the mayor & most of the city council are Mexican-American makes this a fatal mistake for any politician to speak out about. California is not the state to start an anti-immigrant movement if a politician wants to be in office. Poizner made a huge mistake.

What "rights for undocumented immigrants?" They have no rights and no right to be here. Legislators swear an oath to uphold the rule of law/constitution in this country. If they think ethnicity trumps law then they don't belong here either.

If we can secure our borders, then the flow of drugs will certainly decrease. What's wrong with this "same old drum?" Illegal immigration is costing the tax payers a significant amount of money and does play a role in the California deficit..
