Looking for paradise
My wife and I are interested in areas of California that are laid back (not backwards and not a city, "bohemian"), warm climate with plenty of sunshine and winters that are not too cold, mountainous. We currently live in Phoenix, originally from Chicago and are looking for a more moderate climate that is still on the warm side (70-90, maybe a little mid-high 90's)
We have been interested in, but not limiting ourselves to, Ojai, has it changed at all, is it too touristy?
Please don't tell me it's expensive...

Well it's were all the hollywood stars go - so I don't think it's touristy I think it's a bit more snobby myself - but GORGEOUS
And I'm weird - but Sacramento is my paradise. I've never known a city I felt so comfortable in. I wish I never moved away.

LOL, Yes Ojai is expensive.
It is touristy because it is a beautiful place. I know people living there and love it and would not live anywhere else. But one person I know that lives there has lots and lots of m-o-n-e-y! And he is famous. So his land and home is stunning. It was also featured in a magazine.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you got the money and that is where you want to be, then you are in heaven.

Thanks for the replies, are there any other areas that are like this? Possibly in San Diego county or other Central coast areas?

My favorite town on the Central Coast is San Luis Obispo. It's got good weather, a gorgeous walkable downtown, culture and it's very clean. I lived there for 2 years. If I wasn't a city boy, I may have stayed.

Well, parts of Ojai are expensive but other parts are not THAT expensive. And the city of Ojai is just one spot in the Ojai Valley, located on the east end. There is also Mira Monte, Meiners Oaks, and Oak View, which are all unincorporated places, part of the county of Ventura, plus there is Upper Ojai.
City of Ojai is somewhat artsy, golf, tennis tournaments, music in the park, festivals. There is also a lot of agriculture in the valley, 4H clubs and all that. The weather in the Ojai Valley can be hot but not anything like Phoenix usually. (By the way, a close friend moved to Phoenix last year and is now desparately trying to come back to CA. Not too fond of the snakes and scorpions.)
Nice place.
