oh for heaven's sake, saying conservatives blow up abortion clinics and kill abortion doctors is like saying liberals burn the American flag or march against all wars. There are a handful on both sides that are radical and nuts for that matter. The majority of conservatives do nothing like what you are saying. the majority of liberals don't over-react either. Plus, do you realize not all Republicans are conservative and not all Democrats are nutty liberals?
The biggest thing I see and I have been around quite a while: True liberals are much more narrow minded than conservatives.
Nita
You have to admit that moving to & living in Arkansas says more about you then you may believe. We seek our own kind.
I think conservatives whining about liberals is a bigger problem than anything. Conservatives IMO have a way of getting a little crazy when they don't get their way (blowing up abortion clinics and shooting doctors who perform them). Then some of those conservatives leave the state but can't seem to stop complaining about it from afar. It's funny how liberals are blamed for this and that and the conservatives take no responsibility for anything. LOL
This is a typical liberal tactic to try and marginalized all conservatives by trying to link them to a few whack jobs out there . You have fringe nut cakes on both sides of the fence . Yes , I left the state , as a matter of SURVIVAL , I wanted a JOB ! I do like to eat ya know . I will continue to point out the truth , facts and realty of what went wrong in my beloved home state of California because I am pissed off about how my home state has been systematically destroyed by the far left .
If this is going to degenerate into liberal vs conservative then I'll move it to the politics forum where it belongs. Because that conversation has zero to do with California
It seems to me like California has transcended all that. I don't understand how any self-proclaimed liberal (myself included) could support what we've created over the past few decades.
We've created an untenable, bloated, entitlement-laden welfare state where we consistently hand out free services to people unwilling to work, supplement every federal program, where a low-skilled public employee is more highly compensated than a degreed professional, where we support a massive underclass of both US citizens and illegal immigrants, where street gang members number in the tens of thousands\... how on earth can anyone say we're on the right track? If that's the legacy of California's mostly Democratic legislature, then it's time for us (Democrats) to re-evaluate where we are because what we've done clearly isn't working.
Admit you're part of the problem (conservatives and liberals alike) and move on. I don't see Meg Whitman as part of the solution, but I see Jerry Brown as the status quo, and that simply can't be allowed to continue. I underestand the distaste for the current crop of Republicans... they're making everyone long for Barry Goldwater.

I believe we understand your position\ anger with California but you are basically asserting that the California populace "destroyed" your former state. You left because you did not believe in how the majority of Californians vote. Calling it the "far left" is an exaggeration. The "far left" has no more influence than the "radical right". California is a great mixture of people that tend to agree on common sense solutions. The problem is that there aren't any common sense solutions to the state's complicated problems.
You must be on medical marijuana if you truly believe that , California is with out a doubt the most ideologically liberal state in the union . Ronald Reagan is rolling over in his grave at this failed socialism in California .
Forgetting that the GOP has benefited from the gerrymandering of districts to protect incumbents or incumbent parties and that CA in the post-Brown era has had GOP governors for 23 of the last 28 years? Pete Wilson even had a GOP Legislature for 2 of his years as governor, something Reagan never had.
Furthermore, the CA GOP hardly objected to the massive expansion of the prison system, indeed, Deukmejian and Wilson ardently supported it, and the California Correctional Peace Officers Union, the union that has exerted the MOST destructive influence in state politics and on state finances, has its hands deeply in the pockets of politicians of BOTH parties. CA Republicans also supported many initiatives that put the state into deeper debt.
The GOP has also supported nanny state issues, not just coming out against marijuana use and toughening penalties for victimless crimes, but also even Wilson's support of the indoor smoking ban.
This is not a partisan issue. It has to do with the bad choices and decisions made by politicians and voters in the last three decades as well as a completely dysfunctional fiscal structure and outdated state Constitution, the third longest in the world next to those of India and Alabama ; what is wrong with California is to a large extent structural.
Sorry to burst your partisan bubble but facts are facts. The only parties that have clean hands here are the Greens and Libertarians because they have never been in positions of power nor influence. (There have been members of both minor parties who have held local office in CA, and there was ONE Green Assemblywoman, but none who have held statewide office). The Democrats and Republicans both share blame for screwing up the state. If more Californians didn't vote for people because they had a (D) or an (R) next to their name, the state would be in far less trouble.
No , I said I left because I needed a job and if you do not think the far left has more influence than the far right in California you are simply disconnected from reality . California is the poster boy for Liberalism . I do not mind many of the social views of liberals , its just their big govt. tax and spend , entitlement mentality that drives me nuts and weather you admit it or not that is why many businesses and people are leaving this state , that is just a hard fact .

Or more accurately, common sense solutions would be rejected out of hand by BOTH parties as they would offend shibboleths that both major parties hold dear.

Thanks majoun who can argue with the facts? I don't honestly know what the solutions are but feel it is untruthful to blame a particular party or mindset. And I firmly believe, as you point out in your summary, that both Republican & Democratic governors basically took the same approach [wrong or right]. I want California to stay as non-partisan as possible but lean toward Democrats to look out for the little guy [most of the hard working Californians].

No bubble burst here because I am a registered independent and I am not blaming the democratic party , I have been blaming liberal ideology . (Big govt. tax and spend , tax and spend ) If you would read what I wrote . Pete Wilson was indeed a disaster as governor but he was not a fiscal conservative , nether is Arnold for that matter . You have to go all the way back to Reagen to find a fiscally responsible governor who cut taxes and reduced the size of state govt. and it made California a boom state back then .

Reagan did not hesitate to raise taxes when necessary [and he did just that when governor].
