The state wants your money & if those bums in the legislature could impose a breathing tax they surely would.

Okay ... I live in the Coachella Valley where we have snowbirds from everywher it's cold, wh stay here for a few minths, then fly back to where they came from when it gets excrutiatingly hot here. What about those people? They don't live here full-time, yet they spend about 6 or 8 months out of the year here. I never see any of them cited for out of state plates. Maybe it's 'cause there are more of them here than there are of us!

Their permanent state of resident must not be ca & they must not have a ca drivers license. I bet they dont file taxes in ca. I have a neighbor thats in the midwest during the summer & in ca generally from nov-may. They have been doing this for over 10 yrs & they have ohio plates & drivers license. They have never been stopped once & they head back to ohio in 3 weeks.

^^^ My experience is exactly what eagle7 stated...

I have very good friends that are lifelong CA residents... they inherited a home in WA State from a relative and decided to spend summers there...

They bought a economical car from a neighbor in WA and leave it in WA... the one time they drove it to CA... they had lots of trouble because it has WA plates and insurance...

They told the judge... what are we supposed to do? register the car in 2 states at the same time? Their case was dismissed...

From what i read it sounds like the cops in ca are ticketing people left & right for having out of state plates & its obvious its for the revenue. Am i right about both ?

There is a huge push to increase revenue... even a freeway bill board giving a anonymous number to report license cheats.

Cities are raising fines... at least mine is. Parking Meters are now $3 an hour and they had to go to credit card kiosks because who carries a bag of change and many meters were being stolen by crooks.

I look for it to get worse... the red light cameras are a big issue here... a retired 70 year old school teacher took the city to task because the "Yellow" was shorter than the state standard... so all the tickets had to be thrown out...

I think it used to be 25 cents for 15 mins (1.00 hr). I havent used a parking meter in years. I wonder what the fine is for a expired meter ? I did once get a parking ticket in a beach city yrs back & ignored it. Now a days they hound you like the 2 bit whores they are.

Last I checked, basic expired meter is $45. It's an uphill battle from the media reports because CBS did a several block count and found something like 60% of the street meters around city hall were being used by people with disabled placards in the area of city hall...

I bet there is a fee to use the kiosks too!
