I am thinking that the OP never gets out much. Possibly thinks that visiting the big city is when you go to Bakersfield for a road trip. Also wondering why the OP has yet to post again.

Being the mayor of Arvin is very time consuming.

Arvin's biggest claim to fame:

In 2007, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) listed Arvin as having the highest levels of smog of any community in the United States.

Yes, there is smog here in Arvin,ca. but It's not always. We have smog due to the automobiles, and trucks that pass by the 99 freeway all the smog tends to stay here in Arvin. But frankly I use to have asthma but ever since I moved out here I haven't had any at all. So I would think that it's not all that when it comes to smog. What I am sure of is that it sure doesn't feel like Mexico City. Now that's a totally smoggy place. To much smog that when I went out there my contact lenses ripped?

Actually I don't feel like that about Arvin,ca. For me here it's a quiet place and you even get to eat lots of grapes, potatoes, carrots. For the more dramatic places I go to Bakersfield. It doesn't feel like a road trip because from Arvin to Bakersfield it's just a 20 minute drive. If I would want a long trip I'd just visit my family over at Orange County. Now that's a 2hr. drive.

If you love grapes this is the place to visit Arvin,ca. around July. The grapes are so juicy and delicious that when you eat them nice and cold you just can't stop eating them . I guess there good because they haven't been refrigerated or frozen. The carrots are good too because their fresh and besides the long big ones they have the baby carrots those are really great for tossing them in a salad and even better there organic and free if you have access to someone that works there. So practically if you live here you don't have to worry about buying fruits and veggies.

quericorico,

Your not doing a great job on selling me on Arvin. Although I like eating raw carrots and love a good salad, I can get that here in Oxnard. I am not a fan of Grapes although I was thinking that in this state we have a lot of them and could get them in more desirable places to visit such as the Napa valley. I do prefer Strawberries though, but then Oxnard is the place for that. Give me something that is unique to your city. Give me something that I would want to make a trip just to see.

I think it is great that you love Arvin. I for one would hate to live in a city that I didn't love. Maybe if you can let us know just why you love it there. Try thinking more on the lines of what you can offer that is unique or differant than someplace else. You mentioned that Arvin is a quiet place. Many people in the LA area are looking for a quiet place to settle down in. Many people from other parts of the nation want to move to a small town but still have a large city near by. Maybe sell people on that fact that Arvin is small and close to a big community. I have to warn you though that many people poke fun at Bakersfield and joke about the area.

I really am not trying to sell you Arvin, in anyway. I was just stating that I love Arvin because it's a small city but it is growing as far as building new stores. That's what I like about this city. That I am there when new things start to develop.

That is cool that their is growth happening. Here in Ventura where I work we are in the middle of building a new cancer center for our hospital and later in the year beggining a $300 Million new 6 story hospital project that will last 4 years and replace our current 8 story facility. Our midtown section will also be rebuilt to include 3 and 4 story mixed use buildings with store fronts on the 1st floor, offices on the 2nd floor and apartments and condos on the 3rd and 4th floors. We are also proud of our growth.
