I'm looking for cities that have great weather and low humidity like LA, but not as widespread. I'd like to live somewhere where I can walk to most everywhere, and not be stuck in traffic and have to drive to get places.

Also if it were near some mountains that had hiking and biking trails would be a big plus.

I'm not looking for a place that a car isn't required, I'll have a car no matter where for traveling out of the city, but the more i can walk/bike to places the better.

Unless you live in a small town like Morro Bay, you're going to need a car. Even if you did live somewhere like that, how are you going to get out of town on foot? Even a much smaller city like San Diego is still pretty car dependent.

I will have a car no matter where, but a city where i can walk to many places is what I want, and I'll use the car for when I travel out of the city or the other side of town.

Pasadena, very walkable, good weather. Hiking nearby. Good public bus and train system that will
take you to almost anywhere in Los Angeles, including Hollywood.

Two good freeways are near for those days you need to drive out of town.

Yeah, SLO would fit the bill.

So would downtown Santa Barbara, if you have the $$$ to live in central places.

Metro San Diego is pretty spread out, like metro LA.

Since you brought that up you must want to be in a big metro area. If that is the case, just find a sub-area like Pasadena within the large metro area.

Maybe not San Diego, but up the coast a bit in the Oceanside area really isn't that "spread out". Not necessarily wilderness, but definitely not a concrete jungle
