I think she would be referring to closet racism, which has increased. It's known that people who tell you their true feelings, but when they get behind closed doors, they talk behind your back.
I don't know what interracial attitudes were like in the 1970s, but it seems like some people still have a problem with black/white couples. You can see the videos on YouTube on this.
Yes...YouTube is filled with all kinds of racist attitudes in the comments section. Of course, there was no YouTube in the '70's. If there was, it would have been much more ugly.
Not saying there still aren't people out there stuck in the past regarding black/white dating/marriage....it is still far MORE ACCEPTABLE today than in the 1970's.

Even back in the 70's it wasn't a big deal in many places... I've been in weddings of mixed couples... they never experienced any problems until they travel out of CA...
Maybe, Oakland CA is just more accepting and CA in general is than other places?
One couple honeymooned touring some of the Western National Parks and they did experience it... the other couple honeymooned in Hawaii and it was never an issue...
I didn't 'blame' other races, for purposely giving blacks in California a tough time. What I said was, that the influx of immigrants of other races in California, has meant that blacks now have less political and cultural clout in California, because blacks are now outnumbered by immigrants of other races in California.
And many whites have been resentful of blacks, because of Affirmative Action, both in the educational system and on the job. California's loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs SINCE the late-70s, plunged many blacks into poverty, that continues today. So many California blacks, have had to take low-paying service jobs to survive. And those lower-paying jobs, have not lifted many blacks out of poverty.
And the tech industry, demands that those employed in it, must be well-educated. Many blacks haven't had the opportinity to go to college, or if they have, they've dropped out, due to financial difficulties. Black families, typically have fewer financial resources than white families do to help their children attend, and complete college.
artwomyn, do you feel blacks have it better or worse now than they did in the 70's. Is there one social program, including affirmative action, that you feel has helped blacks in the long term?

In the 70s, it was less acceptable for whites to insult blacks, in general. Even though there were fewer interacial marriages back then. As I said, there has definitely been a resurgence of hate from whites towards blacks (and other minorities), since the 80s. That goes for women too. Many men feel freer today, to express their hostilities towards women, than in the past.
Both women, and minorities have it better in some ways today, such as having a wider choice of career options. At the same time, feminism has become a dirty word in today's society, and violence against women has escalated in recent years.
As for blacks, though there has been an increase in blacks who have joined the middle class, the black underclass has also become poorer and more desperate, since the 80s. There has also been an increase in young blacks who are incarcerated, since the 80s. Not to mention increased hostility from some whites, towards black welfare recipients these days. And also blacks who may have been helped by Affirmative Action, even though studies show that white women, have been the main beneficiaries of Affirmative Action programs.

The racism of blacks during the Rodney King riots shocked non-blacks and caused the suburbs to arm themselves. People in the streets were giving ugly unfiltered racist interviews and were acting out in the streets hurting people and destroying their own neighborhoods like packs of animals.
I would say that fiasco sent the hiring of blacks for jobs by businesses and starting businesses in black communities into the toilet.
Then you get this President who was from a church that hated Whites, Jews, Latinos, Asians, America itself and so forth and many were describing Reverend Wright as the TYPICAL pastor of the TYPICAL black church.
People can be behaving better IMO.
I'm in a mixed marriage and my wife is the minority. We see IMO 30 times more racism from the minorities against us than from white people, so I have that as an experience as well.

Looking at your posting pattern and content full of ridiculous ignorance, it's clear that you are some sort of white supremacist. Stating that your wife is a "minority" does not change this fact. Let me guess she is Asian.

Facts are not racists, though those embarrassed by them would use that and class warfare for a lack of actual argument.

...hmm. I wonder if RCCCB hit a nerve in a regular poster who needs to use a new name to petulantly toss an insult...
"Setsuko", a question often projects more "ridiculous ignorance" than one foresees...
As to the whole issue of whether blacks are less welcomed in California... The United States, including California, has never been more welcoming of minorities, foreign or internal... There is just more competition in California for the government and private sector "largess".
Don't believe me. Go read a few books on immigration over the last few hundred years, and come back.

WTF are you talking about? Yes, there was the senseless (and racist) beating of Reginald Denny (the white truck driver) at the hands of Damian Williams (a black guy) and his thuggish friends (also black).
Don't forget who saw that beating on T.V. and went to Reginald Denny's aid. It was Rev. Bennie Newton (a black man) who helped Denny get to the hospital.
So you are willing to cast a wide net and say the actions of a few thugs means all Blacks are racist. I think you need to change your C-D user name to JIM CROW! The only one buying your racist garbage is DAVID DUKE and you!
