As far as what the OP was getting at...I wonder if that chart takes into consideration the number of immigrants here illegally? I'm in Sonoma County, and while I think most parts are still primarily populated with Caucasians, there are a lot more Hispanics than that graph shows.

Alpine county has about 1000 people. The 3 areas of population are Markleeville (the County seat) / Woodfords (where the Native Indians have a small reservation/trust land), Bear Valley (ski area) and Kirkwood (ski area).
When I lived there we'd get called for jury duty about 5 times per year!

Good grief. All of this labeling has gotten completely out of hand. If one's skin is brown and that person speaks with a "Mexican/Spanish" accent, they are labeled Hispanic or Latino....no longer are we supposed to say "Mexican". If one's skin is black and they "appear" to look like their ancestors originated from Africa, we are to label them African-Americans. If one appears to be an Indian, we should label them Native Americans (if one originated from India, they are Indians), etc., etc., etc.
My ancestors originated from Ireland, England and France. So I should be labeled Irish-English-French American. Please don't just call me "White"...how rude is that????
Obviously there are many who are so overly concerned about the color of skin that they ceased looking beyond skin color to see the real person. I am of the minority who could care less what color my neighbor's skin is.
And, if the ones who are "White" are so opposed to living around the "browns and blacks", then why are they so obsessed in tanning their skin to look dark? UMMM???

Hispanic cannot be equated with "brown." Hispanic IS NOT A RACE! Hispanics can be White or Black. Mexicans can be White or Black as well. Most we see are MIXED! Anglo Americans seem to think that the true Hispanics are the brown ones. That's total and utter BS! When are y'all going to let that sink in your skulls?! White and Black are the races of people. All others are a healthy mix of the two to varying degrees and from different time periods. There's no such thing as Whites vs. Blacks vs. Hispanics vs. this and that! That's comparing apples and oranges. White and Black are races and Hispanic is not! Two Mexican actors and one president--Ricardo Montalban, Salma Hayek, and Vincente Fox are but 3 out of the many Mexicans that are obviously White or predominantly White. I know what you're going to say and let me nip that right now. I'm sure most people would say Johnny Depp, Elvis Presley, and Danny DeVito are White, which they are! Well, Montalban, Hayek, and Fox share the same complexion as those White Americans. So how can one set of 3 not be White while the others are? Doesn't make any sense!

I am confused. If you are a Latino, doesn't that mean you are from Latin America? Also called South America? If I remember correctly, Mexico is not in South America, it is south of (north) America and north of south America.
Million dollar question: What is wrong with saying someone is white, black, Mexican, Brazilian, Bulgarian, etc. etc.??!!
When did we become ashamed to be from our own countries????

So how do we figure out what box to check when filling out a job application or college admissions application?
